Going to look at a truck Saturday - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

What do I need to look for.The truck is a 69 SWB 305 V8 and 3 on the tree.No power steering or brakes.It has been a tennessee truck all its life.I know the 305 is not stock it was originally a 6 cylinder truck.I am pretty excited about the truck but don't want to get burn't on the deal.

Check all the cab corners,floor,area over the windsheild,and floorboards.Also behind the rear wheelwell and in the cowl.Most of these area can be repaired but you do want to know what you are getting into.Take a small magnet(refrigerator style bussiness card works well) to check for bondo.Take along coveralls and crawl under the truck,surface rust isn't much problem but a frame that has rusted away areas is going to be a problem.
The other thing I would advise is to take along another car guy.Usually someone that is not stoked about the vehicle will see little flaws the buyer doesn't notice in his excitement.Keep in mind that trim pieces add up in cost pretty quick so if it's not there you will be buying it or smoothing it.Pitted chrome usually is cheaper to replace than replate.Read thru the FAQ's a bit and you will find lots of stuff to check out.I usually look one over pretty well then walk away and go eat lunch or something .Then go back and look again so it can hit me or not.

Also check the cab supports, I didn't check mine when i bought then got it home and seen that they were rusted out and now I'm replacing all four of them.

Well I went at looked at the truck.Looked great from 10-15 feet away.Cab corners had been patched as well as roof above sunvisors.Drip rail was loaded with filler.Thanks to you guys for telling me where to look.I probably would have bought this truck if I not known where to look.I was really hoping this was the one -guess I will keep looking.Thanks for help.

The "filler" in the drip rail is factory applied but you still have to check around it for rust through. If the inner roof panel above the sun visors has been repaired I think I would shy away from it though....
