hey guys. after waiting literally 4 months for my truck to be "legally driveable" the day has finally arrived! I registered and insured it last weekend and Im loving the looks and thumbs up Im getting in my small town. and now that i can drive it, i need to get some tunes in it. so I pieced together a very good sound system (all brand new off ebay) but cannot figure out how to take my stock radio out. could anyone please help?

I took mine out through the glovebox. You obviously must take out the glovebox and it will come out. I believe you can also take it out from the bottom but you must take out the A/C or just heater controls. BTW my glovebox was already out so if you choose this way, the glovebox will usually become broken. This is only good if you are going to replace the glovebox anyway.

I go thru the glovebox also.If it's in bad shape or just gets trashed they are only about $12.00-16.00 thru the vendors.The "Holy Grail" is finding a radio that will fit without breaking your wallet or dash.

I just put my stock radio back in the other day. Had to build a plate for it though because one of the pre-owners had to cut the round knobholes out to get the new stereo in.

My tip: leave the stock radio in there if you don´t want to cut the dash.
Mount it somewhere else. Nobody is going to steal your stock radio so hide the good one somewhere else. I put mine under the dash to the left of the ignition switch.

To put mine back in I moved the heater controls out of the way and had to take a heater tube out. That was fun.

I just got a (new to me) 68 swb and I think it has the factory radio. I would like to leave it in and hook it up to control an ipod or mp3/fm tuner. I have seen frizzlefry's mod with a stock radio, but I would really like to have a tuner too. Has anyone seen or done anything like this?

luckily (for this situation) i dont even have a glovebox. open the lid and its just firewall and heater hose. i can easily see the radio but how is it mounted? i cant figure it out. there dont seem to be any brackets. whats holding it in the dash? thanks

Sometimes there is a bracket on the back.
To get it out of the dash, pull off the knobs and the chrome rings behind them.
There will be a nut on each of the stems. Loosen them and take the radio out.
Don´t forget to disconnect the wires.

thanks, I managed to remove it quite easily with your guys' help. i dont know how i missed those two bolts in the front.
