My first truck

Well it is not really my first truck but it is the first for me of this kind. I just picked up my truck to day and I drove it 180 miles home from Austin.i found a 1971 swb custom 10 delux. It was a 350 on 350 with the original motor and tranny. It has been bored 30 over and had a lil cam put into it. Im not sure what heads it has but I will soon figure that out. It has all componets for the air condition to work and the owner says all it needs is to be charged. It also had disc brakes but they werent power disc. I have the original owners manual with the truck also.

I have two questions I am seeking advice on. How do you go about converting it to power brakes and what would be the best set of heads to put on it. I want to get some performance out of it and would buy whatever is best to help me boost my hp. Thanks for any advice.

Re: My first truck

and on purchasing your truck. I am mechanically challenged but you will fine those on this board who will be able to help you out. Sounds like the beginnings of a new love affair. Don't forget to post pics when you can.

Re: My first truck

Get a photobucket account, and click the link on the bottom of the pictures, and it will copy, and then copy the link here and it will be beautiful. Congrats on the truck, best mods would be an aftermarket aluminum intake and a good carburator, as well as headers and a good, mandrel bent free flowing exhaust. As well, check the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, and if they are new, great, if not, change them. Also change oil and filter with good oil and a good filter (Napa Gold, Wix, Mobil 1, Purolator PureOne, etc. NO FRAM!!) as it is cheap insurance. Sounds like a fun project to get you out in the garage wrenching! Just my $.02.

Re: My first truck

It has an edelbrock intake and a carter afb carb. The carb number is 9650 I believe I know nothing about them really. It is dueled out all the way but its has no headers.

I love the color... it looks sweet. Total bummer it needs painted again. You going with the same color, or planning on something else?

Re: My first truck

I plan to repaint it the same color. Since I am going to A&M it will fit in real good being maroon. I want to lower it. I am thinking i will do a 3 and 5 inch drop along with some 17 inch torque thrust wheels. As far as interior goes I am going to put it back stock with exception of putting in a new stereo system and I am wanting to put the gas tank somewhere besides the cab.

I would like to get the 350 running strong. It already has a knew intake, mild cam, and carb but it just dont seem to have enough to it. I dont know whether to liik into heads or what to do.

Along with the truck I got 3 doors, a gm manufactured tailgate, an oold tailgate, the original Q jet, a solid back glass, new rubber for all the windows, new door skins, all kinds of trim and side moldings, a new hood, full wheel hub caps, and the original radio.

Any info views or suggestions I would appreciate. thanks
