Hidden Latches on Tailgate - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Has anyone used a product from Mar-k that has the hidden latches and links on their tailgates.
Will they work with the stock bed sides on a 53 Chevy
Did you have any problem installing them?

I used the ss hidden latches from Mar-K. They take some drilling and cutting to install them but it is not difficult. They should work with the stock bed sides, you will just need to drill a hole for the pin to go into in order to hold the gate shut. This was the same thing that I needed to do.

I also filled the holes on the tailgate where the chains would connect.

They are offering the tailgate at a discount right now. I just got the email from them. I ordered my bed from them so I am on their list. It has the pin and the hidden hinge already installed 265.50 - 310.50 Thant is with the 10% off sale.

Nothing holds mine open currently. Since my truck will be used very little for hauling things, I didn't add any cables or straps to keep it from opening too far. I might go back later and add some ss cables but I will wait to see if I really need them.

I used the hidden latches on tailgate also. I also used folding arms like they have on newer trucks, it works well.

Just ordered the tailgate with the latches and hinge kit and you were right 10% off until the end of August. I saved enough to almost pay for the SS hinges !!
This the first time I have dealt with Mar-k and they say there shipping charges are $8.95 for almost everything, Are these folks a sponser on here ?

I used supports from a 72 suburban. I just welded a nut on the gate and a nut on the box side and it worked out really nice.

I just welded a nut on the gate and a nut on the box side and it worked out really nice.
