What a surprise!

Well I started to do a little sanding on top of the cab today, and they were a huge crack, just above the passenger side door. I put a screwdriver in the crack and lifted up a hand sized piece of bondo about 3/4 of an inch thick. Whoever done this they were very good with bondo because they put the seam back in the top of the cab. That then revealed a pretty good size dent that I don't know what to do with since I can't hammer it out. I'll post pictures of the dent tomorrow. but the picture below shows how it looked

Re: What a surprise!

you could always fill it in with 3/4 inch of bondo.

Re: What a surprise!

There are "pick" type of tools that you would use by drilling a 1/8-inch hole or a series of holes then use the picks to pull the metal. They're called pull rods.

Another method would be to use one of the mig/tig/arc tools that would have you welding a stick to the metal, then using a puller (slap hammer) to pull out the dent.

Or, as LonghornMan said......

Re: What a surprise!

I have been very lucky. They just took the bed off the frame and the only rust of concern is the rockers on both sides. Otherwise it is only surface rust. No doubt the Tn. climate is much kinder to our trucks than the midwest. With these old trucks you never know what one will find under the paint.

Re: What a surprise!

to save a few bucks, use flat washers tacked to the low spot of the dent stand the washer on end. then take a regular dent puller and put a long 3" metal screw in place of the screw, bend the long screw into the shape of a j and use that instead. then go back with a cut off wheel cut the weld tack and grin smooth.

Thats a good idea. Gotta try that. My luck the washer would pull loose and i'd hit my self in the face with the slide hammer.

Re: What a surprise!

Ouch.... that hurts!!!!
I would try the washer/slide hammer idea. Stud welders are great, if you have one, but that washer idea is GENIUS!!!!
