When you finally finish your project....

What would you do next? I was asked that the other day and didn't really have an answer.

I've been tinkering with my two trucks for a long time. I suspect I'll be too old to do any work on them before they're completely finished.

But, if I ever do finish them, I'm sure I'll have to find another old truck or car to tinker with in my spare time. Just can't picture myself sitting around admiring my work.

A neglected project.I think I would start one that would never be finished.I enjoy driving mine so much while upgrading that I would probably start another then neglect it.

400" 68 Firebird and a BBC 71 Chevelle have been dreams of mine since I was probably 7 or 8...

And of course, a budget "rat rod" 67-68 GNC LWB. Bags, C-notch, satin black, pinstripes, saddle blanket seat, old busted piston as the shifter, caddy tails, red/lime green steelies with white walls, 50's era dash grafted in... Im gonna go nuts with the thing.

.......the wife has always wanted a 69/70 Mustang Fastback. Out of all the Blue Oval pony cars these are the best looking IMHO. However, Papa has always wanted to roll in a early 60's sled- Like either a '60-62 Impala / Bonneville or a '62-'64 Continental (Ragtop preferred of course). Being as I'm a good 4-5 years from being relatively "done" with the SWB I have time to ponder this. Who knows- maybe I'll build that rally car I've always wanted and do the Rally America thing

Geeze, if I was younger (and when I was) I would want to build a '65-67 Mustang. Got a lot of memories of those. But wait, there's more!!! Another '54 Ford 2-Dr and another '56 Mercury Monterey 2-dr HT; another '66 Dart GT V-8; a '56 Chevy SWB pickup; another '67 Firebird Sprint HT; and my wife wants her '93 Camry SE back.

My wife wants an old Nova, but then her uncle has a 442 that has been sitting in his driveway since I met my wife that I might be able to "keep in the family".

But then again, I sold my Jeep when I started on this 68, and that was a lot of fun, so maybe I'll get another jeep to tinker and play with.

If I ever finish mine, I'll work on one with my son. Noty sure what that will be yet, and more than likely mine will never really be done. I just hope mine is driveable before I jump in to help my son with one. (I got about 5 years )

My boys have already started planning on my next projects. They are both into the older trucks so that means I have about 5 years to finish mine. Good thing is they are a couple years apart so I won't be trying to do 2 at once.

My oldest son isn't sure what he wants yet but the younest loves the 67-72 chevy trucks so he's kinda leaning to those.

They're never really done. Mine still needs quite a bit of work, and would be considered "in progress" by most folks. But, I enjoy driving it too much to tear it down again.

So, that leaves but one option - start another project! I'm thinking a car this time around. I've always liked the first and second gen. Chevy II's. So has my dad. So, another father/son project may take off. But, that has to wait until I make sure I can afford my next two years of college and such.

I'm thinking a two door, satin black, red rims, with chrome center smoothies. maybe a slight rake? minimal interior, black seats, maybe diamond plate door panels. That sort of bare bones idea.

Engine could be anything from a hot, hot six, like a 250 or shoehorn a 292 in it, with a cam, headers, and 3x1 intake. Or a fast spinning small block - 302? 283? 327? Or even a bastardization brand big block shoved in there, like a 455.

But, then again, those are just ideas. bwahah.

I just retired about a year ago so I have a little more time to tinker these days. I've been working on my 2 trucks off and on for 10-15 years but only one is driveable now.

Someone mentioned that you're really never done with them, and that's probably true. But, you can get to a point where there's nothing other than wash, wax and polish them. That would be boring to me. If I ever finish and still have some years in me, I would like to try to start a 70 Chevelle or 70 Nova build.

I'm done with restoring cars and trucks when I'm finished with mine!! Well, after I'm done helping my brother with his!!! Unless I can somehow end up with the 66 Chevelle from down the street.. But that would be it for me!!!! Or if a decent 67-72 Chevy truck should fall into my lap..NO! I can't do it! I'm done! 'Course I've said that a couple times in the past too......... I would like to get some more wood working tools and start another hobby and just enjoy my 72. That's what I've been thinking for some time now.

i've built a few cars, (fixed up, i should say) a 68 gto, a 70 camaro,a trans am or 2 etc. helped on my dads 33 ford truck, his 48 chevy truck, his 55 chevy truck, etc and my brothers 37 dodge coupe, another brothers 55 bel air, several buddies projects, and stuff, but next, if this truck ever gets finished, i want to build my own car. not a kit car, not a resto, a totally ground up, hand built, one off, sports car. i want to hand build the frame and all of the sheet metal myself, as well as wiring, paint upholstery, brakes, suspension, fuel injection system, i want to fabricate it all. myself. nobody but me. and no one sees it untill i drive it. but i will probably have to wait untill i retire, to start it. right now i am lucky to get any time to spend on the truck. ( if your gonna dream,.. dream big !!!)

Pea....So its next......Big Plans Small budget ...Then i think i will take a break for a while..Although i have been thinking of making my 67dd a short bed step side....lol.........so we will see........
