Newbie with 72 Blazer 2wd question
A customer of mine has requested a serious quote to transfere a 72 Blazer (4X4) body onto a 79 Blazer 2wd chassis thats already blasted and front end redone (aftermarket upper and lower control arms ect.). Am wondering how extensive this job is? Frame shortening? Body mounts? We run a two man body, restoration, fabrication shop so we have most all the tool and equip. needed. Thank you for any responses ahead of time.

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer 2wd question
I'm reasonably sure the wheelbase is different on those and the mounting points will be also. Not insurmountable but also not something I would do. I would use the original 4x4 frame, swap in the new front end stuff from the 79 and weld in the mounts for the leaf rear axle from the 79 (heck, it may fit the existing 4x4 mounts...)

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer 2wd question
im not positive but the 1972 has a wheel base of 105 in. and the 1979 is 106.5 in. but what i would is take the 79 front end and put it in the 4x4 frame and find a 71-72 rear end and trailing arm set up to bolt in.

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer 2wd question
from South Texas! I'm witht he other guys, swap the front crossmember and steering in, then change up the back. Much easier than a body swap IMO.

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer 2wd question
Okay thanks, I was under the impression that taking the 4X4 stuff off and puting the 2wd stuff in (t-case, crossmember, front suspension) would be a lot larger job than swapping the body mounts, I have never done a front susp. swap and thought it looked like alot of work.

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer 2wd question
Tons of people have done the front suspension swap, there's probably a thread on here somewhere...
I think Gringoloco could help you out... Good luck, Rg
