Glad you made it to this subforum. Okay, more and better pics are a must of that great looking K5!

Can you shoot a couple pics of your BBC and how it fits around the firewall. What problems did you run into and what were your solutions.

I've got a BBC in my 69 K20 and always interested in seeing others.

I've got a BBC in my 69 K20 and always interested in seeing others.

There she is. I'm still working out the bugs thats why its a mess (especially the wiring) the biggest problem was working out the cooling. The factory SBC cooling was not enough, I talked about it a bit in this forum http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=285740 . The next thing was Hedder clearance. the frame had to be notched and boxed for reinforcement to allow the headers some room to jump around since we added a complete roller top end. The motor mounts had to be customized a bit with an offset to the rear.

The 454 is coming back out within a month or so now that most of the bugs have been worked out so I can clean everything else up including the firewall. I will definitely post some more pics when its back together since it will have a few more performance mods added. Like a Elect. fuel pump, ignition upgrade and OH YA it will no longer be a 454, shes movin on up in life to a 489 Stroker.

Re: New K5 Guy, first time on Blazer/Jimmy forum

Wow, I'm surprised the frame had to be modified that much. I had to grind a little for clearance for a couple tubes.

Just goes to show how the bbc swap is always unique in regards to what must be done to get your bbc in your own truck/K5.

Eager to see the 489 stroker project!

Yea, I probably could of used tighter headers but this way its set up for worst case conditions. when the 454 comes back out, I'm also going to brace the frame rails to each other for additional support. I've been told I dont need to and its overkill but thats exactly what I want "overkill"

Yukon Jack, you think I can see some pic's of your BBC?

Thanks,

Welcome- good looking K5- Here's a pic of my BBC- I moved my whole drive train up 1 inch to clear the firewall- put in a 4-core radiator, and no problems with the Hooker Super Comp Headers. 6 MPG idling or 70. What a ride! I miss that truck....

Thanks Kleantouch.

I didnt know I had a heating problem till I got out off roading in the HOT and very dry Califonia summer without moving air and running very high RPM's. Didnt have a problem on the streets, heres a link where I wrote about it a bit more. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=285740.

Compression = Heat, we all know that typically factory Big Blocks are low compression motors. So we installed a high compression roller cam (dont remember exact specs off top of my head) and worked over 396 heads, in addition she only runs on 91 octane fuel. this combination made it 9:1 adding quite a bit of heat as well. The 489 Stroker conversion will be at least 10:1. But now I'm not worried about keeping it cool, the cooling system is pretty much OVERKILLED.

Re: New K5 Guy, first time on Blazer/Jimmy forum

Here is a great thread showing and giving information about bbc fitment in the 67-72 trucks and 69-72 K5's. You ought to throw your pics and info in there even though the thread is getting a little old - it is still a good reference thread.

There are a few pics of my solution to my major firewall issues in the above post - here is a pic of the 454 before the body was installed.
