Factory tilt from a 72 we put in our 71. The pin that holds the shift lever in is loose in the shift socket, won't hardly stay in. Looks like small knurling at the top is all that holds the pin in, and the shift socket is worn just a hair to big.

JB weld ? (just a little bit on top) or ??? A manual tran 3 speed uses a roll pin setup, can a tilt be modified to use a roll pin ? This is a nice column, we just had it all apart to replace the turn signal switch and clean and paint it so I would like to save it if at all possible. Thanks.

Why not take it out and replace the pin with a new one? That should tighten it up. If the lever is not tight then try some small washers that will fit the pin diamter to take the slack up.

The pin is just fine, tried another pin from a regular tauto column and didn't change anythng. The hole for the pin in the shift socket is worn loose at the top.

I think the non-tilts are setup the same way too, should be someway to fix these properly, I mean I could stick a bolt and nut through there but thats just not right.

How about a brass bushing, you may have to drill hole for bushing but it would tighten it up. If it loosened up again you would just have to replace the bushing.

There is no correct way to fix that you will have to replace shift bowl.

I took a small bolt and a nylon nut and attach it that way. i just took the bolt and cut it down to the exact size i needed. Took up all the slack in the shifter by tightening it.

If I'm not mistaken, one of the board vendors sell and oversized pin to fix this. GMCPauls? WES? CLASSICHEARTBEAT?

I just changed my board name to match my business. I don't know of anyone who is selling oversize pins for this application. We have a few stock (NOS) pins in stock. Could be the pin that is the problem or it could be the housing. If you are taking one 40 year old pin and comparing it to another 40 year old pin, you could get the same result though. WES

how about expoxy in the hole, LIGHTLY coat the pin with grease/pam or something similiar - when it cures, you can still remove the pin but the expoxy will have the flutes of the pin imprinted in it....
