OUT with the new IN with the old
Well today I cleaned up my 97 GMC all purdy and shiney. Then I stuck some "FOR SALE" signs in the windows and parked it out for everyone to see.
I know a 97 is hardly new but its the newest truck I have ever owned. Its replacement? My 1971 K10 long bed, ocher and white, cheyanne with AC (witch I will be fixing) It has a rebuilt 350 all stock spec's, a rebuilt th400, the transfercase has a few new bearings and new gaskets, and the axles have been up cleaned out new bearings and seals, new brakes. Basically its ready to drive, just a few small things to fix such as aleaking trans cooler line. Im pretty stoked about driving a COOL old truck again.

Re: OUT with the new IN with the old
Ditto above. I went from a newer model F150 to my '70cst. Believe it or not, I get better mpg and a smoother ride. Love it.

Re: OUT with the new IN with the old
Yes, it started life as a 1979 2wd c30 cab and chassis model. I cut 5.5 feet off the rear and moved the axle forward. It is now close to the same wheel base as a suburban or a long bed regular cab. I built in about 4" of lift when I moved the springs forward. I also did a shackle flip giving me 6", for a total of 10" lift. The front required about 6" of built in lift to make up for the larger frame and I used 4" springs. I also moved the front axle forward 4". Thats the max you can move the front axle forward without moving the steering box. It has a 6.2l diesel and Im trying to gather up enough parts for a nv4500 and 203/205 doubler. It has a dana 60 front and a 14B rear axles.
Part of the money from my 97 will fund this truck. Heres the pics.

Re: OUT with the new IN with the old
For the bed Im going to build a box with fenders and a built in headache that will house dual 4" stacks. I will also build a semi exo cage and will cut the rockers and replace them with 3x3 square tube. I will eventually replace the 6.2 with a complete turbo 6.5 I am also rewireing the whole truck with water tight conectors and will put the breaker block in a sealed compartment in the glove box. Thats right no fuses, just trip breakers. it will have a snorkle as well.
The goal for frankentruck is to be as tough as possible. I have been taking my time and gathering the biggest parts available, such as 1450 yokes biggest tie rod ends ALL the shackles and spring eyes have been upgraded from 7/16 bolts to 9/16 bolts. I have some serious diff covers pinion gaurds and other beefy goodies. crossover steering and eventually hydo ram assist. It will ride on 42" swapers when its done. I will gear it to be road freindly in 4th gear. That way I will have 5th overdrive and the doubler should give me all the low range I need.
