I have an original gas tank for my blazer and was wondering what is the best way to clean it out and possibly seal it inside?

well if its got alot of "tar" in it. engine degreaser with tank removed. i like the foamy kind.

im at a loss for the sealing.get a new gas tank?

I yanked my original tank and took it to a guy who does radiators and gas tanks. He cleaned it out and sealed the inside for like $100.00.

About a year later I got the K5 running - filled it up and it leaked like a sieve!!!!

I got a replacement steel tank for like $200 and after addressing the filler neck issue, I was good to go. Here's an informative link on that subject!

Maybe you'll have better luck with the sealing - make sure you get some type of guarantee if you go that route.

Have you seen this gas tank sealer kit from Eastwood? I haven't tried this product, but I'm going to. I'd like to hear from anyone's experience with it, anyone?

If it is just dirty, get it boiled out, if there is an issue that forces sealing, get a new one. Yukon Jacks thread covered it well. The new tank necks are a cross between the Burb and Blazer tank and really doesn't fit either now!! Just have the neck out of your OE tank removed (radiator shop again as it needs to be heated up to remove solder and resolder into the repop tank). then switch the OE neck into the repop. Napa and Rock Auto both sell the new sending units for about $75, but the repops tend to come complete and ready to install.

I actually have a good original and a repop from the truck shop. With all the neck probs, I was going to use the original. Which one should I use?

Use the new (unless the old is really "good", but just dirty), just get the neck unsoldered out of the original and have it soldered into the repop, about $30 at most radiator shops.

If the original has no pin holes and appears to be sound, I'd just use it. If it has any issues, I'd use the repop.

My solution with the repop is highlighted in the above thread - I cut the old one off, used a piece of fuel hose to connect the used neck to the stub on the repop tank and it worked great. I had originally cut my original neck off and soldered onto the repop, but still had fitment issues so ended up cutting it off again and using a the hose to add the old to the new.

i used that eastwood kit on an old
ford 8n tractor it worked but i wasnt building a bridge either and it wasnt near the size we are talkin
all i was looking for was to hold enough gas from half way down
it seaped down to a collective drip before it didnt really"leak"
