Nicest Detroit area classic snow plow truck
Work travel required me to travel to my old stomping grounds of the armpit of the planet this week (Detroit area) where I was able to meet up with an ole buddy while I was in town. Tom worked with my wife at an automotive manufacturer parts supplier years ago when we lived in Detroit and became like an uncle to us when we were youngans out of collage and 1800 miles away from our real family.
Anyway, here is his exceptionally clean Victory Red 1985 K20 he uses to plow snow in the Detroit area. I absolutely can’t believe how clean and rust free this truck is for being a Michigan native snow plow truck. Heck, my rust free Colorado native 78' was an attention getter back in 1997 when I lived there. It is amazing this Michigan native 1985 native truck is still alive! Tom bought it a couple years ago as a plow truck from the original owner who babied it to death. He still bathes the truck after each snow plowing job at home in his garage to clean off any traces of salt. Absolutely amazing as plastic will rust in Michigan! BTW....This weekend is the famous Woodward Dream Cruise! I wish I could stick around town for that as it has been 9 years since I was able to attend. (Detroit is still a nice place to leave...not LIVE )

That's really impressive. I'm liking the wheels too, same ones I run on my truck.

Does he keep the plow hardware on all the time for show, or what?

I'd like to have that here in the winter time. Make some $$ pushing snow and look cool doing it...

Re: Nicest Detroit area classic snow plow truck
seriously? I don't know what people do in your area, but around here nobody takes off their plow mounts for summer.

I'd say about half the folks leave the hardware on, and half take them off.

Re: Nicest Detroit area classic snow plow truck
For a plow set up like that its not just plugs and pins thats quite the pain to take that stile plow on and off.

Re: Nicest Detroit area classic snow plow truck
The salt is the problem, not so much the snow even if we average 300" a year here in the UP. Plow trucks are usually quite used up in a matter of two or three years here. Taking the mounts off isnt worth the trouble since its plowing from October to April, it spends more time in snow. They arent small plows and they arent used for what most consider to be heavy snow of less than 6". Last winter every time it snowed here we got at least 12", usually quite a bit more.
I dont want to think about winter, stop bringing it up... |

Re: Nicest Detroit area classic snow plow truck
When you are a mile from the shore of Superior you will get plenty of lake effect. With the wind coming off the lake you get a really fun white spot on M28 where in the summer you can see for miles. Anywhere there are no trees along the shore is a white out, its exceedingly fun! I need to get a 4x4 running again...
