Picked up a four eyed patina truck.

I have been trying to get this truck for at least two years and the old man finally caved in and sold it to me. It is a 68 BB air truck very straight with very little rust. It has been sitting for some time and some punks have busted out most of the glass but I have plenty of glass to replace it.

Pretty cool old truck even though it is a GMC.

Nice......smog pump is even still in place. Did any other states require smog pumps besides California?

Nice! Any chance it has the option sticker in the glove box? Just curious as alot of 67 and some 68 gmcs seem to be missing them. I assume you are going to save it? Eric

Hey, now! What is this “pretty cool for a GMC “ nonsense?

I happen to have an affinity for four eyed 1968 GMC’s.

That is a nice score! Drop it, install a modern drive train and drive it BUT most importantly don’t paint it! That is a natural master piece as it is.

Re: Picked up a four eyed patina truck.

So that's what a smog pump looks like on a BB.
My burb was originally sold in washington, 72 with a 402, and it had the smog pump at one time. I actually think it was 50 state required, just cali is the only place you still find them.
Anyone ever seen a power steering reservoir with an arm like that?

I think that arm was used mainly in 68 for some reason. I thought it was if there was a dual battery setup, but i have thrown that theory out...

Re: Picked up a four eyed patina truck.

Is the truck a camper truck? I ask because the arm on the reservoir looks like one used to clear the aux. battery tray for a custom camper. At one point someone here was looking for one of those arms for their bb truck. As far as the smog most bb trucks came with smog equipment, but could be had without as well. My 71 has no evidence of ever having smog equipment, but a friend's 69 had all the smog pieces in place as well as optional air lift shocks- hard lines and factory inflate location next to driver's seat , this should not have appeared until 70 at least but was there and in unmolested condition.

Nope! I think the GB door must have been left open while it set.

This is the first truck that I have ever seen with the PS reservoir like that. I was wondering if it was original.

I don't really have any plans for it.

Re: Picked up a four eyed patina truck.

Nice find there, any chance of getting a few more underhood shots as it's not real often that a 68 396 truck is posted? Does that a.c. compressor have have the two piece support bracket running down from the rear of compressor to the exhaust manifold mounting bolts? It would be bolted at same location on the compressor as the boomerang shaped bracket which runs over the valve cover and over to the main a.i.r./smog pump mounting bracket?

Re: Picked up a four eyed patina truck.

I like it.... on the positive side, the new windshield will be clean and the weather stripping will not be shrunk and won't leak.

I use to know a guy with an old salvege yard, he used the same type of screw driver to take radiator hoses off like that.

p.s my post count is now bigger than my Sub motor.

life is good,kent

That`s funny. Some day it will be biggerthan a freighter ship.

You just keep stumblin`over those sunburnt Texas trucks and stuffin` them away. You`ll be rewarded for such righteous deads one day. It`s cool that it`s not one of those copy cat Chevys."Why do they make two trucks the same when GMC already makes one?"(just a little fact that people managed to flip around backwards over the years)

Maybe if you sell me those NOS wheel covers..... I think it has all the same brackets as the later ones except the boomerang shaped one which is replaced by the smog pump bracket.
