Question Airaid Cold Air intake... are they good?

Hey guys...

I have found a used system here locally... (but haven't purchased it yet). Has anyone installed this on a 350 TBI... any suggestions or inputs on the results will be appreciated!

Thanks!
Anthony

Anthony they work just fine. I had one on a 95 TBI 5.7 Yukon. The only problem is it had a plastic housing that went on the top of the TB. It split open at the seams after a couple years of daily use. It still worked, but did leak a little unfiltered air.

You want cold air, get it from outside the hood area.

How much are they new? It's been several years since I bought one, but they were around 180.00 back then.

That price is too high. You can buy a new system for a couple more bucks. Offer him $80 or nothing.

Re: Airaid Cold Air intake... are they good?

I think some sort of cold air intake would really be beneficial on these trucks, just because when you stop and pop the hood, you can feel the hot air escape and you can feel that all surfaces under the hood, even those far from the engine are hot. I haven't found a way to get fresh air in without doing some surgery.

Of course there is always the cowl hood and air box route, since I need a new hood anyway but it would be nice to get some sort of fresh air setup before then.

Is there anyway to get a fresh air duct to the under side of the bumper without doing any surgery on these trucks ?

Re: Airaid Cold Air intake... are they good?

I dont know if anyone else has done this, but the stock air intake on my 87 is right on the rad grille support, mounted with a plastic cup lookin thing. Simply remove the hose from the cup, the cup from the support, and put the hose into the hole in the support. Direct air, just make sure u have a filter on top of the motor...i can take some pictures if my shaby description doesnt show u what i mean...lol...

Re: Airaid Cold Air intake... are they good?

I was thinking about this the other day, so someone please correct me if I'm a 'tard. If I understand Skyline right, mine's the same way. The hose for my air intake runs right to the grill, off to the side of the radiator so it's not getting any hot air off the cooling system. Isn't this kind of a cold air intake? The air is brought in with out any contamination from the heat of the engine bay or radiator. Well, I mean there's obviously some heating of the air as it flows down the tube on it's way to carburetor land, but you get my drift.

That's the way my 83 is, only thing I did was remove the plate or cover on the front and left the base on the radiator support to hold the hose up, great cold air intake and bug catcher

I've had it for several months. I'm getting 19+ MPG out of the ZZ4 at 70 MPH. I just added fuel to my last empty tank used from my vacation. I'll post the results on my previous ZZ4 challenge. I'm very happy with the setup. People just look at it when I open the hood. First question, what is that? Does it work? Hell ya it works. Same principle as a intercooler, except air temp is out side air temp.

The box is 110 degrees. I went to a smaller serpentine belt system off a Blazer. Blazers and cars don't have the same spacing as trucks from A/C to alternator. I am ordering the black plastic neopreen tubes. The aluminum ducts work but they are easily crushed. They can spark too if they touch the battery. I'm also running a 4" K&N filter. My 4.5 filter would not fit the box. Order a raised base too. A stock base is too low. Carb linkages can get stuck under the base.

Installing the air ducts and cutting holes in the radiator support/fender well are hardest procedures.

I was inspired by Mike's installation.

I made changes to fit my 91 grill setup.
