fender help

I just wanted to see if anyone has a sure fire way to spot a gm fender over the many aftermarket replacements out there on the market.

Re: fender help

I can't, but from what I've heard, it's easier to tell when you start the fitment process. I've seen a couple of '69 Camaros get refitted with new sheet metal over the summer. One of them got a new roof panel, both rear quarters, a pair of floorpans and a new dash panel. To go along with that, there were some more "incidentals" that had to be accomplished...tweaking this, bending that, a cut here, a slice there. It honestly was a complete resking of a body shell.

A good body man can make this stuff work.

Re: fender help

I bought a NOS GM fender from a member and now I don't want to waste it on a driver so I bought a used fender at a swap meet and the guy didn't know the brand name because the sticker wore off. He was parting out a truck he bought. It is in primer and looks like a GM and is as heavy as the GM.

Re: fender help

Alot of after market stuff will have some sort of name or logo stamped on them. If you find one of them you know it's not GM. But if it does not have a stamp I have know idea how to tell if it is GM.

Re: fender help

Weight has been the key factor for me.I put a goodmark door on my truck and it was about 20 lbs lighter than the GM door. Also look at bracing points, they just dont look as sharp as GM.I really don't like anything aftermarket I've had to put on my truck, EXCEPT, my Mar-K bedsides, that fit and were built exactly like GM.The only thing I had to do to them is put re-inforcements for the taillight mounts.Good luck

Re: fender help

Does a GM fender have a gm stamp anywhere on it?
