Anybody ever repaired a broken vent window?
I'm finally back to working on Old Yeller after nearly a two year hiatus and need some info on repairing my vent window. My originals still work fine but the trim was painted black and has worn down to a consitent rust. I found this good looking chrome pair on some doors I bought but alas the pivot on the bottom of the driver's side window was broken off.
I can canibalize the originals for the missing spring assembly but don't want to tear it apart unless I know this is going to work. I've never seen a functioning vent window torn all the way down and I don't know if there is a supposed to be a stud on the bottom of the window trim that's broken off or if the stud comes from the spring assembly and inserts into the bottom of the window trim?

Re: Anybody ever repaired a broken vent window?
the stud is attached to the frame around the glass. I broke one taking it apart once, and the only way to fix it is to get another window frame. If it's not the chrome version, you could probably weld the stud back in place and repaint the frame, but I see that yours is chrome, so welding would discolor the chrome.

First, let me say that one of the best things about this forum is you post a question and presto, 11 minutes later you have an answer.
Second, let me say thank you to Pete for the answer. And third, let me say, "RATS, I was afraid of that."
