Talking Itīs official!!!!!

Man am i lucky or what!!??
Last week i got the inspection for the registration.
The man apreciated the good work and craftsmanship and said:" drive safely and keep that nice truck in good shape!"
That was it- no complaining about aluminum rims, lowered suspension, tuned engine that didnīt come original in this truck or the mirrors that are a little tiny for such a big rig!
At the time of inspection there was no oil leaking and everything worked fine.
Yesterday i went to my friends shop to get the truck back home and the first thing was a drained battery because he forgot to turn of the lights. After we jumpstarted the engine the charginglight came on and stayed on, so i think something is wrong with the alternator or battery.
The engine fired right up and ran fine and so we started the 100 mile trip.
Half the way we went on the Autobahn (Highway) at an average 70 mph.
The last 5 miles i stepped on the gopedal and went about 115 mph when my buddy who was driving behind me noticed some oilfog on his windshield. We stopped at a gasstation and foud out that the oilpangasket wasnīt ok and leaked like crazy.I lost one quart of oil and the whole undercarriage is messed up with oil now!
But what the heck----i have the official licenceplate and that means that the truck is streetlegal in Germany!!!
This is the best thing i can imagine after 14 years of wrenching, sweating and crying!!!

Too cool! I know you have a ton of hours invested. It would be a shame to not be able to enjoy it on the road. Get the bugs fixed and go take pics of you in the country for us to share.

Re: Itīs official!!!!!

Awesome news, I know how tough some of the inspectors can be. It took me 4 months to get one of my cars through inspection in Frankfurt. It took 6 tries with the 1980 BMW 520 I had for a while, it wasnt even rusty! Modified makes it tougher, and I know its even more stringent for non US Military, so you did good!

Now get the oil leak fixed and dont go too fast anymore... I do miss Bahn 5 and 3 out of Frankfurt, good times...

Re: Itīs official!!!!!

Thanks for all your comments!
Dooce: i look forward to meet you and cruise around and talk fuel!
N2TRUX: iīll try to get the oilpangasket fixed next weekend but i think its hard to come by because of the limited space around the frontcrossmember.Do i have to lift the engine?
Thumpin455: iīm very proud that i made it but i think many of the restrictions and problems the TÜV gives us here are just stupid and not necessary!

And for pics: There are definately more to come!Until then please look at my webalbums!

Have you tried tightening all the bolts again? Pan gaskets are prone to need re-torquing.

Nice truck!! I wish I had open roads like the Autobahn. I would love to test the average speed limit of my truck.

Re: Itīs official!!!!!

Iīll try re-toquing first but allready have a new gasketset to put in because i think the old one might be cracked or dried out because the engine was without oil for years!

As for the Autobahn there are speedlimits here too because of many bad accidents and pollution control! And mostly thereīs so much traffic that you canīt speed down the track at WOT without fearing that someone pulls in your lane!
Other than that the ride at 85 or more mph is not like a sportscar!

Re: Itīs official!!!!!

This post makes me miss Germany...I bought my truck right after I got home, but I miss taking my BMWs out on the autobahn in Rheinland-Pfalz. Not so much traffic down there and wide open roads.
To the people who have never experienced it...the autobahn is awesome. I also had a 98 Z28 while I was there...American cars rule the roost at lower speed(torque) IMO...but there is something to be said about going 145+ and having an Audi station wagon blow by you*LOL*.

Ohh, BTW congrats on passing the TUV inspection...they are real sticklers!!!

Re: Itīs official!!!!!

Thanks man!
The autobahn is mostly a pain in the back because the traffic is mad!
When you get the chance and find some empty miles and have the right vehicle to blow some fuel its fun!
Once i had a Ford sierra cosworth that went 245 kph and my buddy has a Honda CBR900 wich goes almost 280 kph! Pure fun!
The truck will go about 190 kph but i didnīt test it yet on the road.
On the dyno it went 218 kph!

Great lookin truck!! Glad you got it tagged and official. After a total rebuild like you did, expect a few problems(bugs) to work out.... It sounds like minor bugs, then a nice ride to enjoy! David

It is a factorygrill from the 89-91 Blazer,Suburban and Dually.
The Emblem is still missing because the previous owner played around with leds so that it was perforated and ugly.I have one that i got to put in soon to complete the face!
Next is the interior but at first weīre building a house so i better wait with a new carpet and upholstery until that is finished and i have my new shop to work in!

The first bugs are allready showing up! The exhaust is blowing out were the header connects to the rest of the pipes and the cheap mufflers allready rust and drone like hell and the exhausthangers rattle of their nuts!
Gasmileage is bad and the alternater doesnīt work properly and i still loose oil around the back of the engine i think its the crankseal!
But all in all i love that truck- it has personality and turns heads!

I think you may get a used one in a junkyard or a new one from LMC or maybe some boardmember has one to give away!
You can find more pics of my baby in my webalbum wich is the link in my signature!
