looking to take my tank off the bottom of my blazer and run to full size beer kegs up top, trying to figure how i can avoid sloshing of the fuel inside the keg. any ideas would be great.....

Foam and/or baffling are used a lot but either is going to be tough to make happen with an old beer keg, unless you have the skillz to cut one open and do the install.

Why not just go fuel cell?

i got a guy that can weld aluminum, i am just trying to figure out how it should be done once i get inside, what would work the best. may just add a screw on type (or something like it). this is all new to me so, and all the guys i know that go wheeling in my old area run fuel cells, just wanted something different. if i have to i will go with fuel cell, but i want to see if i can make this work first. how often do you see a 72 blazer with beer kegs for fuel tanks

RCI sells safety foam "bricks" for use in fuel cells. They also sell universal floats/sending units but you would have to some how shield the loose foam fbricks from interfering with the float.

The float in my fuel cell is inside a tube so that nothing interfear's with it.

hey if you can like angle the bottom of the keg like a convex curve, or just a big dip for your pickup tube to sit in, thaty way if you ar "slohing" on low fuel you still ahve a good pick up point

Beer kegs are usually stainless, haven't seen an aluminum one. Sounds like an interesting project.

well that makes it easier, the one i was looking at in chicago last year when i lived there where aluminum. i didnt explect it to be easy, but it will not be the most common fuel cell. thanks for the help

ive scrapped pleanty of kegs and about half where aluminium and the rest where stainless.

today i just baught a real nice stainless slitz OLD beer keg for a gas tank that is stainless.

My buddy has a keg for his fuel cell on his VW Baja Bug it's pretty sic. He has it mounted up on his rack with some KC's an axe and a shovel.

This is sure a subject I've never seen before!

Back in the 70s before dirt circle track racing rules began requiring actual fuel cells they generally mandated a welded 1/8" steel tank rule. Sloshing fuel was a problem when the driver would throw the car into the turns, as it could cause the car to get too loose. One way we prevented that was to fill the tank with wiffle balls. It worked real well!

If you have a large enuff access hole using the foam blocks that Johnnywagon recommended is definitely the way to go. To fit that foam into an odd shape such as a keg, an electric knife like you carve a turkey with can be used to shape it so it isn't compressed, then it will absorb and drain fuel from it much better. Don't tell the wife you used the knife, or in my case many years ago, my Mom!

I have drained many a keg thru the years and have never seen a stainless steel one! Never knew they existed. That is my education for the day!

Okay bump for an old thread... I have a 1970 GMC SWB and the tank inside the cab is leaking... I got ahold of a free keg and want to do this... How big of a problem is it for a truck that is going to just be driving on the road? (With the Slosh) And if i need to do something to help with it... Do the wiffle balls not melt or anything? (Sorry if thats a dumb question but i dont know Lol) and how full would i fill it with them?

Fill the keg with foam balls. They are made for motorcycles. Just keep stuffing them in there till you get teh effect you want.

The deal i had fell threw... I am still trying to find something... If i find a keg first i am going to go with that but if i find a normal tank i will use it.. I will let you know when i figure out what i am doing...

The worst part is you cant buy a keg here (I am not sure about other states) But from anyone who is really allowed to be selling them if you dont have a tdc? Or something like that.. So i cant just go buy one from anywhere..

Technically, that's illegal. However, it does happen quite a bit. Those kegs are the property of the brewery and they cost the brewery a lot more than the deposit one leaves on them.

The best place that I have found to get the kegs from is college parties. Hope that helps, I am finally getting around to getting my two kegs together and getting put in the truck. I will try to take some pics as I go for you all

Maybe you can get one of those guys that build ships in bottles to make you some baffles for the inside of those kegs :-)

Thought about the same thing with the keg idea for my 58 willys. buying kegs here Is a pretty simple task, They sell for about $40.

but back to the sloshing, If you cant get the right foam in the keg you can also go with wiffle balls as 70gmcJimmy said Its pretty common on prerunners and desert trucks. Theres tons of "wiffle ball" threads onhttp://www.Dezertrangers.com
