WTB GM 8 Track
I have the two control (Volume and Tone) 8 track but I want to install a GM 4 position (4 adjustments) 8 Track. Anyone have one for sale? Thanks in advanced.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
Do you have pictures of what you currently have? I do not think that you will find anything in the four control variety that will work for the truck application. If you are set on having the four control setup you might want to look at early impala/camaro 8 tracks. But I really don't know how you are going to make it work as they were designed to sit just below the stock radio and on the center console. I am enclosing a pcture of the dealer installed set up for these trucks. This is the correct 8 track offered from GM in 70-71-72 at least. I have a another one that is identical but it came with a black plastic cover (never seen before) that looks as if it would sit on trans hump or mount flush to the front of the bucket seat console.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
Thanks 71 super for the info...With this info I think I will stick to the Chevy 8 Track that I have which is like the one shown in your picture except it has the Chevy Bowtie.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
71 Super, do you have any detailed shots of the mounting bracket for your dealer installed 8 track? I am curious if there are any brackets that are similar or would work for my 1971. Thanks Trevor

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
The two dealer 8 tracks that I have have two different brackets. The one in my 71 (pictured) is little more than a strap 2 inches wide that attaches on each side with the two studs on each side visible in the picture. The other one I have has a totally different bracket. It is not installed but it may be a couple of days before I can get pictures. You might also try contacting Rod as he also has a dealer 8 track and one of the four I have actually seen that were correct- 1 he has , 2 I have and one in 72 model gmc on a car lot several years ago.

So what defines the correct 8 Track for our trucks? Does it need to have the GM on the 8 track doors or are there other styles of 8 tracks that would be correct for our trucks? Thanks in advance.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
yes the correct 8 track player has the "GM" on the door. The Chevy Bowtie was used in the passenger cars. I have one with the Bowtie and I plan to install it in my 1971 because I think it's a cool blast from the past. Trevor

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
OK thanks 71blksuper4x4 for the info. My 8 Track has the Bowtie so I will use it in my truck untill I find the correct GM unit. Thanks again for the info as it is appreciated.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
oh sorry, I think also there is a difference in the actual knobs as well. They don't have the ridges along the outside of them. I could be wrong, as I am far from my bowtie unit.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
I have a 1970 Custom Features Accessoroes brochure and the 8 track that it shows as an option as neither the GM letters or the Bowtie. I am starting to think that if one went to a Chevy dealer to purchase an 8 track they would put either style on the truck. The GM may be more correct but back in those days it wasn't that big of deal rather the 8 Track had a GM or Bowtie on the face plate. Just a thought.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
I thought I had posted a reply to this for you but it did not post???? Any way you are right it looks as though the bowtie units were used early especially but according to the 71-72 accessory manual (actually pictured on the front cover) the GM model is correct for the later years. As far as correct most have never seen them and don't even know they exist so the bowtie will work with no problem. The GM models do have a different knob than the unit you have which is like the passenger cars. If you look at the picture I posted they are small knobs and different than the others offered. I was told that the knobs can be very difficult to get. I would really like to find the accessory speaker kit that these units came with but that is a frogs hair Im afraid. Long and short your 8 track will work for your application. PS Rod did want to sell his at one point a couple of years ago, so if you are set on being correct contact him but these are worth a pretty penny, so be ready.

Re: WTB 8 Control Track
Thanks 71 super...My truck is a 70 C10 so it falls into the middle. I would agree that the unit I have is likley a Chevy passenger 8 track model. I have recently purchased a dual cone 8 ohm front speaker so I can run L/R off the 8 track.
