Re: Im looking at a 72 GMC

I am confused about the cab corner part. You don't want to cut off used corners and put them on your cab do you? New cab corners are very cheap.

Almost everything was an option on any truck, nothing was "stock".

what are your plans for it? $700 is alot of money if all you are wanting to do is cut out a few bed parts.

Re: Im looking at a 72 GMC

travis, all the body panels will match up with your 1/2 ton. The grill is not the same, but it would bolt right up if you determined you liked it better. The frame, for the best part, is pretty much the same too. A little bit of added bracing, and some stronger springs, that's about it. The suspention is not the same as your 1500, you shoulda figured that one out already. So from the springs on down, you won't use the parts. However, pretty much everything from the frame up, can be used on your 1500.
Stock, as in no options, it would be equipped the same as a 1500... a CE model would have a 307/3 sopeed on the column and 4.57 gears, a CS model would be a 250 inline with a 3 on the column and 4.57 gears. All the engine and tranny options are the same as the lighter duty counter part, the gearing is a lot lower, but again, that rear isn't what you'd want anyways.

Travis

Go look at it it may have all the panels to make yours solid again. If you are looking for advise on it get us detailed pics and make sure to see if the SPID info is still in the glove box.

Im mean the truck is in good shape no rust on the exterior I will look at it and get pics. Longhorn Man do you think it may have a dana rear end or even a diesel engine? Or Im way way way off from it?

Re: Im looking at a 72 GMC

it might have a dana... but if it is an inline or small block, odds are it's the eaton. (Why would you want a 3/4 ton dana?)
Diesel??? very very VERY unlikely.

Re: Im looking at a 72 GMC

the eaton is pretty much slang on these boards.
The correct term would be corperate rear axle, with an eaton differental.
GM made the body of the rear, and eaton made the guts.
Eaton is still in buisness making trannys and rears for med and heavy duty trucks. Very good rears in the old trucks like ours, but the parts are getting hard to find for them (72 was the last time that model rear was used).

so its worth 700 bucks easily I did take a quick peek at the interior and their is barely a steering wheel all I seen was metal. The seats looked pretty darn good so was the interior but no tailgate. Other than no tailgate it still looks good.

Re: Im looking at a 72 GMC

it's hard to say if it is worth 7 bills from your description... esp as a parts truck, which I am assuming is why you want it.
Now, a s a work truck... if it runs and drives, it's worth the cash. Even just as a driver/beater, it's probably worth 7 bills. But, if it is a parts truck, you need to figure out what you need, see if it has those parts in good shape, figure what the value of those parts are, then what you'll do with the carcass of the parts truck... it can be a real pain in the 12 bolt.

Travis, try to take some good photos and post them. (not with your phone cam, either!) That way, everyone can give you thoughts on whether it's worth $700. Look to see if the spid is still there on the glove box door as well.
