GMC 305 V6 info wanted

Hello, I picked up this 63 with the 305 v6. It needs a front seal and radiator but it runs well. How does it feel and drive and what kind of HP and torque does it put out. I can't find much info about them other than that they are kind of industrial and don't rev very high. Thanks

I ended up with the 63 after getting this 47 for a project from a friend of mine.

Re: GMC 305 V6 info wanted

The 305 is a member of a dying breed. They are heavy, slow and are getting hard to find parts for. It is a decent engine, but it does not like high revs. It does have tons of low end torque.

GMC used a high nickel content block, similar to Caddilac. If you don't run the engine at high rpm it should go at least 200,000 miles.

I always favored the 351. It had better flowing heads and the crank had better balance. But you dance with the gal you took.

The 305 is a good engine. They sound great and have plenty of torque as mentioned above. Make sure you run it with a straight thru muffler. They need to breathe and had a straight thru from the factory. They are known to drink gas, but my old 305 got 15 Hi-way.

Re: GMC 305 V6 info wanted

I love my 305A! It still has the original 1-barrel Holley, runs like a top and consistently gets 12 MPG. Not bad for a 48 year old truck considering my '03 Tundra gets 12-13 in the city. And hardly anybody else has it or has ever seen one so it always gets the double-take at car shows...
