got er home barely!
i had the scariest ride of my life but i made it home. this is my 64 swb. the vin decodes to a 3/4 ton 2wd. it has a 67 bed on it for now. back to the scary part. the first red light i came to the brakes locked up and stayed that way for 20-30 miles. i stopped to put some gas in and they were smokin!!!!!!!!! it has drums all the way around and the rears are locking up. supposedly the front is all rebuilt. they look new. i would like to change all to disc but $$$$$$$ is there a cheap way to do this. do any of ya'll have an idea what could be wrong with the brakes that are on there? |

Most likely the rear hose. They can act like check valves holding line pressure even though you let off.

Yeah if the hoses are old they can suck themselves in when you let off the pedal and hold the brakes locked.

I have also heard of exhaust heat locking brakes.....check the route in the engine compartment if the other stuff doesnt pan out.

Glad you made it home... Never fun when that happens. Also going along w/ protrash check under the bed close to exhaust there as well.

First check the emergency brake and cables, if they are connected. Also see if they released after being parked for a while. Usually a rotten hose will leak back after sitting.
If they didn't release, open a bleeder valve on either side. If that releases the brakes, it's probably the hose. But also check the lines for a kink or being flattened. If they still aren't released, you need to get the drums off. First try backing off the adjustment wheel. It is possible that the adjusting screws were assembled wrong. If you can't get the drums off, report back for more advice.
