I am working on my 72 longbed. I swapping out the front end with new parts. I already have djm comtrol arms that give a 2 inch drop, also coil springs with a 3 inch drop and stock spindles. It will give a 5 inch drop total, Is that to much or should i just us a 2 inch drop spring?

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
I believe 3 inches of drop with springs is gonna cause alignment issues.
you would be better off with 2 inch spindles and 1 inch springs

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
If going low is what u want, u will be fine with the 2 inch control arms and
with the 2 inch springs... I do not recomend 3 inch springs. ![]() |

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
5 inches of drop is fine,... but using dropped control arms puts the spring pocket very close to the ground. And I think you are going to have alignment issues. A better option is the 3" springs with drop spindles.

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
Any combo that uses 3" springs is not going to give you a decent ride. Your much better off with 2" springs if ride quality is of concern.

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
I had 5" drop on the front of my 71 consiting of dropped spindles and 3" springs. No alignmenet issues at all, it aligned perfectly and held alignment just fine. The 3" springs however were very stiff and road very rough. I liked the look of mine that low, just didn't enjoy the ride quality.

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
I have heard that the 3 inch drop spring causes some bump steer, so Im using spindles, 3 inch spring, and tubular upper control arms to fix the camber.

Re: 5 inch front drop to much?
With the lowering A-arms & 3" springs, that is basically the same as having a 5" drop spring
That will give you some alignment problems for sure If you want to use your lowering A-arms, then a 1" drop spring would be the most I would use with them And if you want to go lower than that, I would loose the lowering A-arms & get some drop spindles 2" drop springs & some 3" drop spindles would be a much better option IMO Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 08-28-2008 at 12:18 PM. |
