How do you guys paint/dye plastic parts.I ordered new ac bezels for my 67 and they are black. I'd like to have them match the paint. Also, any tips on repairing cracks and painting a steering wheel?

All I know is that Rustoleum is good for plastic, Krylon is too.

It's a bit more work but for textured plastic, I hand rub the part with actual sand - get all the "gloss" off and then clean with laquer thinner. I've had nice results with dashes (new and old) and door panels, etc.

I used brake cleaner on some wheel covers(cheapo Geo so it didn't matter) then aluminum paint.I did the same with a pair of sun visors,7 years and the paint is still OK.Neither would do for show but it made DD's easier to live with.
I did a steering wheel with some epoxy (Filed a good "tooth" on it and just filled,filed and sanded)and cleaned it with steel wool,then sprayed it with brake cleaner.The paint seems to have stayed.I used Krylon but also used a leather cover over the rim to keep from wearing thru the color.I did it about the same time as the visors.Unfortunately I can't remember if I used primer.

There`s a product called Bulldog and it`s an adhesion promoter for painting plastic and such.I use that stuff on quality parts I want to be sure holds up.My auto paint supplier carries it.If you can`t find it let me know and I`ll get info off a can.
With the cracked steering wheel,just like Deland,I`d cut a bigger bite out of it to fill with JB-Weld or whatever.I`m looking at restoring a 67/67 wheel at the moment.

I always use Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, it works great. I used it on my ATV fenders then basecoat/ clearcoat, it really makes the paint stick. I figure if it will hold up on an ATV, it should work for anything.

I have used NAPA paint stores for many years. They have a plastic prep solvent that is killer good. Its Cross Fire #15250 Wax and grease remover. I use their spray paint they sell made by SEM Products. You can also buy the paint at a number of locations on line. Just get the flexible coating. I've used this stuff on my Vettes, my truck and I just finished the interior of my Carrera. I have NEVER had anything painted with this stuff flake, peel or give any problems at all!

it requires no primer and it really bonds well to the plastic surface. I used it on the ABS inner cap on my '73 Airstream Argosy trailer. It has been there almost 2 years and looks brand new.

I just painted my entire dash on my Honda Civic From Light gray to Shadow Blue I used SEM'S COLOR COAT AEROSOLS Formulated to match, restore or change color on most vinyl surfaces, flexible and rigid plastics, carpet and velour. COLOR COAT is fade resistant, flexible and is a permanent coating. COLOR COAT is not a dye. This stuff works good I recomend it!
