Camaro sway bar install...with pictures!!!

I bought it this afternoon for $75.00 with all the hardware. I will have to get longer end link bolts though. It's out of a IROC too! I'm in the cleaning and painting proccess right now. Once I have everything ready to install I'll post more pictures.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

From what I read in the Suspension post it's pretty straight forward and helps a lot. I have a front already installed. It should handle well after the rear is done.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

You will need different U-bolts, camero axle tube is smaller. And also need to make some spacers for the end link brackets, the camero frame is wider.
Wait on the endlinks till you get it mounted and the truck on the ground and then measure what length you need to keep the bar ends parallel with the ground.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

This is the rear sway bar off a IROC. Yes I'm going to mount mine I think to the bottom of the axle for clearance reason. I will take the end bracket to work and have the spacer made and drilled. I will also change the tube u-bolts.
I thought all this was a boltup when I read it the other day. If I knew that I had to change all the hardware out I could have gotten the bar for $50.00.
No biggy though.
I have everything painted except the bar. I need another coat on it.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

The reason I'm going with it on the bottom is because it's lowered. I don't want it hitting anything when the truck bounces. I may try it on top also though. Once I get it under there and see how it looks. The guy's in our fab shop are making me some spacer's. I should get them tomorrow.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

One other thing I remembered is you will have to clearance the brake lines a little to get the u-bolts on. Also if you have the means to do it I would recommend tack welding the u-bolt saddles in place once you get the setup to your liking.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

Yea I thought about that too! Going to get it on and see which is the best fit for a few days and then tach them on.

Yea I figured I have to move the brake line a little for the new u-bolts. Shouldn't be no problem though. I put the last coat on the bar last night so it should be good to go tonight when I get home.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

OK got the spacers today and the bar is painted. All I need now is the 3" clamps and the end link bolts. I'm ready to install. I'll pick them up tonight or tomorrow.

Looks good, have fun drilling the holes in the frame for the spacers.
I think you will say its worth the install.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

Well I got the bar installed but have some issues with it. It looks like it will hit the trailing arm mounts whenever it flexes. Anybody who has mounted one do you know if it hits when flexing up and down?

Here is a pic of the 3" muffler clamp used.

Over all install.

Passenger side.

This is the kit I got to hook the end links up to the frame.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

I can't comment on whether it will hit or not having mounted mine topside and arms forward. Might just have to cautiously give it a try and check for noise or marks to see if it clears.
I do have one comment though, if you are installing that for better handling, I would reccommend you get some shock relocaters you are not getting much benefit from yours at that angle.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

Cool, someone else is trying this. I looked at mine tonight twice before responding for any sign of contact:

• between the bar and the trailing arms
• between the bar and the pumpkin
• between the link and the panhard bar mount.

No signs of anything hitting yet and I've been driving it for a least a month this way. Anyone who missed my thread on this, possibly because the title didn't interest you, here's the link:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=257721

Andy, I noticed your trailing arms have a rubber bump stop on the end that mine don't have and may be longer? Also, is that an optical illusion, or is the inside of your passenger side tire rubbing on something?

Re: Camaro sway bar install

69_hafton,
yes the tire was rubbing until I installed the adjustable track bar.
The bumpstop on the trailing arm was for the over load bar. I took them off when I lowered it.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

I have a stupid question? Would the panhard/track bar you have on there take as much or more "sway" out as a sway bar? I was just looking at the whole setup and it appeared to be much more rigid than the sway bar.

The track bar controls the side to side movement and makes the truck "track" straight.

The sway bar helps control body roll while turning...

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

That is correct the sway bar is for roll effect of the truck while taking a curve where the track bar is for side to side motion when the truck is moving up and down.

Re: Camaro sway bar install

I hope you have at least a 1.25" front bar or you're gonna have some serious oversteer. I personally wouldn't put the IROC version on a truck with such a light rear end; a Burb or Panel maybe. With a 1.25" front bar and the smaller base Camaro rear bar (19mm?) on my Burb it was just about right.
