What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

I'm not going to pretend like I know, I just know it's there. I can select gears just fine. but there's this 2nd linkage.

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

If you have a powerglide or TH-350, it's the passing gear/kickdown for when you stomp on it. It doesn't need to be hooked up on these transmissions, but you'll probably have to downshift manually when you want to pass. It hooks to the carburetor opposite where the throttle linkage connects.

hmmm. It's on the driver's side of the transmission same as the throttle linkage. I remember having to set the kickdown in the past.. hmmm

I dont think the tranny will work right if its not there and properly adjusted.

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

It will work okay, it just won't kick down. Th350's don't need the detent cable like 200's and 700's do.

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

I wanted to be sure. The damn tranny slips in between shifts and I didn't know if that was a culprit.
I'll be honest and say I know jack about Auto Transmissions.

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

I bought a fresh rebuilt th350 once and the detent cable was not set right and the tranny slipped. Took it to the place I got the trans from and 5mins later after the adjustment it didnt slip and shifted fine. Yes it was a 350 trans. I thought there was a pressure regulator that runs off the detent cable too???

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

If you have either a 200R4 or 700R4, the cable is called a TV cable, or throttle valve cable. This cable controls the pressure in the trans and if it is not adjusted properly you can burn up your trans. I think we need to determine which trans you have.....

D'oh! I have a Powerglide in my Chevelle and have been driving it without the kick-down hooked up for about a year now! Please advise!

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

Stopped by HB Trans yesterday on the way home from work - "not good" was what the owner said - she goes in Monday for a review and if everything's okay, a reconnection of the kick-down and adjustment.

Wish me luck - this could get ugly quick for the Chevelle.

Re: What is the 2nd linkage on my AT?

The Blue Lives! It cost $255.00, and two days, but I don't care! Hardware came from Classic Industries - 300 feet from my guy at HB Transmission, and it shifts and 'kicks-down' perfectly. Now it shifts at about 30-35 mph instead of 15-20 mph and delays shifting as long as I like it if I mash the throttle from the light!

Big change in how the Chevelle drives.
