Hey! Down to the nitty gritty with my 71 gmc 1/2 ton lb. Would love some pics on one piece door window conversions along with side mirror ideas and how the conversion went. So far Brothers is the source of choice. Any help would be much appreciated. ken

Just finished my install about 3 weeks ago ( I installed One Piece Products )
http://www.onepieceproducts.com/. Went fairly well, the kit is good and you have to make minor mods. Mondo had a just kit installed in his also, not sure of what he thinks but I like mine, no rattles while driving ( either up or down ).
jkaylor68gmc helped with the install and there will be a photo/story install coming in the next issue of Truck Builder ( Buckaroo Communications ).
If you talk to the guys @ onepiece ask for Ben and tell him Josh and DeWayne told you to call.

You end up ditching the factory hinge check-link (door stopper) for their version. The factory one will be in the way of the glass-travel. And a couple of new bolt & access holes. Nothing major.

Hey, when the TOOLS NEEDED list includes "Lawn chair w/ six pack for a break!!" at the end, you get a pretty good idea.

actually, you have to stick a grinder or plasma cutter inside the door and removed a good bit of the body that is on the hinge side to make room for the glass to roll down.

no, my funny little 6-inch round arms barely got the grinder up in there, then you get to hold and cut one handed. Its an adventure I will never again experience.

Thanks guys for the tips. To tell you the truth for a hundred bucks less and the mods you have to pull on the BROTHERS one piece conversion, I may be leaning that way. They've been featured in a couple mags and sounds like they work well. On their website they have a tech article. Anybody gets a chance to look it over please reply and let me know what they think.

I really like that look!!! Wonder if the 73-87 conv. work's as good, if so i will be in the market to buy that set up !! I have heard they work better on O.E. door's, but i thought there was a thread on you changing your door's to after-market, but it look's like you didn't have any problem's! Great looking truck by the way!!!

fatboy69, I got to admit, this setup on your truck is superclean. The Brothers setup has a triangular wedge at the front lower corner of the window frame which if you had a modern mirror it would mount on that pad. I got some peeps that are going on the front edge of the door about three or four inches above where the window channel meets the door skin. If I take my time there's no reason mine can't work like yours.

I've seen a lot of threads regarding the brothers kit. It's cheaper but you get what you pay for. I've seen comments posted on how they rattle, hard to align, get stuck up and down while driving, etc. I'm going with the one piece products. http://www.onepieceproducts.com/

Forum member Capt Kaos sells the One Piece Products kits for 67-72's and 73-87. He will give you all the details but his experience has been that the One Piece Products kit is the better choice.

i used the brothers kit , also added power regulators. haven't had any problems , but i don't drive it everyday. i also used motorcycle mirror mounted to the little triangle.

Hey, again, thanks for all the input. I'll spend the extra bucks for the One Piece Products. Sounds like following the instructions to a "T" will get me a quality build. If anybody else has any stories I'd like to hear them, especially about the One Piece windows. I'll be buying in a week or two.

We sell them for less the OPP, if you are interested. There has been a lot of updates to the kit and he has added some new tip sheets for the main issues that have come up at the end of the instructions. There is even a new stop available for them now instead of the bumper piece on the hinge. I just got a set last week. One key problem area that was found is the power kit setup for these needs another notch to make them travel far enough.

As for the 73-87 versions, they are even easier than the 67-72 as they already had power setups from the factory (77-up)

BTW, I keep pushing the Blazer setup for the 67-72's but I don't have a date. the El Camino kits were prioritized ahead of them.

Not sure, I'll ask jkaylor68gmc and find out for you guys. Either I'll let you know or he will ( he will have to check with the printers ).
The story may also include the door swap I did also ( replaced both doors with new aftermarket ones and installed the windows ).
Poor truck I have raped and pillage her over the summer with quite a few updates/mods and she keeps on TRUCKIN' gotta love the classic trucks !!!

THANKS MAN ! Just on on-going money pit !! I have had all kinds of Hot Rods,Street Rods and I like my Classic Truck the best. Thinking about adding to the collection, don't know if I want a street rod, hot rod, or another truck.

For some reason it says that my pictures are too big even though I've posted before.

Anyway, here's a link to the pictures of when I first brought it home. The paint shop installed the windows and said it wasn't a big deal to install (for them at least).

I like them. I have noticed a very slight ripple affect to the windows.... not perfectly flat. It's only in certain light conditions that you'd barely notice. I don't think I could even get a picture to show it.

Custom interior by Grey's Auto Upholstery, Vintage Air, Billet Specialties 17x8 Rival G wheels (4" bs), Toyo Proxes ST II tires, 255/60-17 front, 275/60-17 rear. Future upgrades: aluminum heads, 200r or 700r tranny and 3.73 gears and aftermarket dash gauges.
