Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Hey guys...I really didn't want to have to post this but I am getting pretty desperate here. I have 2 projects, a 76 Jeep and my 63 LB. The Jeep is almost complete, just waiting on a transfer-case shift rail to complete the drivetrain (rest is done for now) and the Truck is almost a roller with body on it (by next week). Here is my problem:

I am leaving for school next week on the East Coast and both of these projects are taking up space at home. My parents have been cool letting me wrench on my stuff even though the neighbors complain about them being an eyesore - but I cannot leave them sitting up the driveway for 10 weeks (promise I made before starting work). I told them I would do everything that I could to try and find a place to store them, but everyone says they must be drivable (yeah right), insured, and registered to store or some places that will store them want 200 to 250 per vehicle per month.

I am looking to rent some extra space that some-one might have, or even open to suggestions here. I have covers for both vehicles, so they will just look like covered cars not some junker and I have saved a little for storage fees - but cannot afford 1200 in storage costs. I might be able to store the jeep at a friends place but the truck is too long for any of my other friends houses.

Is there anyone in Los Angeles or local to LA that has any extra space that they could "rent" me? I would pay and when I come back for Christmas break (6 weeks long) I wouldn't might lending a hand on your own project for a few days in gratitude.

Well thats my cry for help - thanks for reading it - and if anyone has any suggestions I am all ears and open to all ideas. Thanks - Kurt

Dude!! My neighbors just moved out today! The owner foreclosed on the house that my "new" neighbors were living in.They had 'till today to get out!! The house is going up for auction, but I don't know anymore details. If I get anymore info I'll let you know! There's a car port on the side of the house where we can stash your ride. If I get any info soon, I'll let you know.........

If you get desperate I know of a place in Bethal Island which is a good 500 miles from LA, where you can store a car or truck for $65 a month indoors and about $35 or something out doors. It is dirty but cheap.

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Thanks for the help guys...thats why I love this board. Seems that you either have a complete abundance of land or a total lack of it

Sid: If you could get me more info on that house, that would be great. You can call me or PM, my cell is 626.298.4897.

Fleetside: Thats the type of place that I am looking for - but the cost to drive up and back twice makes kinda of kills the deal. Would love o find one locally.

CrewCab: If I need help I will defnitley give you a call, thanks for the offer.

I was thinking, maybe a whole group of us, like 10 or so could find a closed up shop and lease or rent it, split the cost that many ways, that way we all have a place to work, people to help, might work if we could find somewhere cheap enough and enough guys who are interested. Wishful thinking maybe, but thinking at least.

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Did some searching (didn't realize craigslist had a whole section for this kinda of thing) and found an RV storage place in Monrovia that said they would take my stuff. Still looking for alternatives - but I don't think I will find many.

As for renting a shop - I am all for it if we can find enough guys who are interested in it. I know another guy who is on this board talked to me about looking for a place locally to work on his stuff...so it looks like the interest is there. Any ideas on where to start looking??

Funny how this stuff kinda snowballs isn't it?

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

I suggest first find out if there are any other parites interested, where they are located and then try to centralize the "shop location" if at all possible.

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Anybody interested in a potential shop or shop space lease in the southern California (Los Angeles or surrounding areas) please email me at kabrimberry@socal.rr.com

I am trying to gauge interest to see if this is a feasible option or just a hopeless long-shot.

Just email me telling me that you are interested and that you live in such and such near the corner of such and such. Depending on how many people email me maybe we can find a somewhat central location and then start the actual process of looking for a place to lease to work on our trucks. In all honesty I have no idea if there will be enough people who are interested and willing to pay to make it work, but one will never know unless they ask.

Hey Kurt!! Haven't been able to get more info on the house next door other than it's gonna auction soon. As far as the "shop" idea, it sounds great, but just can't swing it right now. I know your running out of time so, I'll keep diggin' and I'll call you as soon as something comes up......

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Hey thanks alot Sid...I think that I found a place locally. He owns a large wherehouse and stores his and his friends stuff and just rents out spaces for some extra cash.

The shop idea is kinda far-fetched I am sure, but it would be cool to get some guys interested so that we can start looking and people can start saving or what-not

To everyone that offered up advice and help thank you so very much. I did end up finding a place to store my stuff - and luckily too because they have room to store my Mercedes as well, something that just came out of the blue. Thanks again guys - Kurt

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Glad to hear you found somewhere to put everything. I was the one who talked to you at the swap meet and would be interested if we could find somewhere local to us in the Pasadena area. So far, I have not found one but maybe something will pop up while you are at school and we can re-visit the possibility while you are back for your break.

BTW, how did you do at the Pomona swap meet?

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

I'm glad you found a place to store your stuff.
I'm actually also interested in the shop idea though. I recently moved to Long Beach and no longer have garage space to work on my truck (or my other cars) and everything is parked up at my parent's house.
I'd be interested in setting up a c/10 shop somewhere here in so cal.

62c20, are you still gauging interest in this? Or should I take up the torch?

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

I'm still down for getting sumptin together, I'm bout 2 miles from
62c20 - near So Pasadena & 32 miles East of Long Beach. We need to see a local show of hands, find out where each of us is located and try to centralize a work shop location - if possible. Once I'm back to work, I'd like to see what we can do on this. So count me in.

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

argonaut: I still invite anyone interested to email me...but it will be difficult heading this up since I will be living on the east coast for 10 weeks at a time. I think that passing the torch is the best bet, but still count me in.

I have briefly looked over leases that are located in Los Angeles and I feel that our best bet is a warehouse that is in a zone that would allow for automotive work. All the existing auto shops that are looking for lease arrangements are asking for 2500 to 6000 a month (at least the ones with enough space). Maybe everyone who has interest in this should meet up and have dinner or something so that we can gauge interest, lay-out particulars, and figure out our next step.

Re: Need some help from some-one local in LA County

Just met a local guy here in SoCal not far from me that is doing custom work on these rigs. He's currently working out of someone elses shop and is a veteran of another here in San Gabriel Valley. He's looking at another location to start a shop.

He's on this forum but I neglected to get his screen name. I told him that a few of us spoke of getting together to find a spot we can wrench on our own and others trucks as well. He'd be interested in us getting together to meet up and maybe talk bout a shop location.

Maybe we can get a group of us together after the first of the year to meet up.

The following is from an email he sent me over the weekend - check out his suspension work:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/15252491@N03/

there are 3 folders on the right hand side of each of those sites with pictures

the did the 62 chevy truck a few months back for a guy in san diego and am currently working on the 41 ford for a guy out of long beach. the 60 and 64 c20 are my trucks.
"

I'm still out of work but THINK I have something lined up after the new year. If I do, I'd be willing to check this out.
