Pontiac Question
My son has a 1970 Pontiac Tempest w/350 th400 he backed onto curb and bumped passanger side header. Now we have an exhaust leak on the back end of the flange, we changed the gasket w/Mr Gasket header gasket ... still leaks must have bent tube or flange there are only 4 threaded bolt holes in the head so its hard to pull ends up tight have no idea what brand they are.
My question is what is the trick at getting the header out it hits oil filter adapter and cross member do we have to jack up or remove engine to get this out? Has anyone done this? What about doubling gasket? Thanks in advance for any info. Kman |

I havent messed with headers on the Poncho's, but the Olds had a bolt on filter adaptor in the same spot. the adaptor needed to be removed, & possibly the eng mount bolt removed ,to jack up 1 side of the engine. If you get the car up high enough, the header may come out the bottom(with filter/adptor removed). good luck.....

Depends on which headers you get, I had only one problem a long time ago with a 74 gto and the steering box was in the way but a small sledge hammer fixed that! A bodys are pretty simple and should go smooth! But on the other hand if you do run into problems as crazylonghorn said you can in do a motor mount to get it in or sometimes get the car on ramps and slide it in from the bottom! If you want a cheap set of headers check summit they make their own and worked well for $85? Good Luck and Love your Pontiac!
