Have quick question about hubbys problem(he is struck with this problem)
HI all, sinc big man is out trying to figure this out, i get to ask the questions. He took the float bowl off. got the vavle in the right position. Tried to fire the truck. once again he had to put gas in the carb. ran for a few seconds then stoped. could not get it started again without adding for fuel to the carb. So he took the fuel line off. he is getting fuel fine to the carb, BUT not into the carb he thinks. what does he need to check next. He is thinking about a rebuild kit.

What kind of carb?
Some carbs have a filter/screen in the inlet port that clog really easy. |

ok just went out and asked him. He said he manually put gas into the float bowl and tried to start the truck. it started then died. He went quickly tot he front and checked the bowl. NO GAS left inthere.

I know you checked fuel to the carb from the pump, but how much fuel is there? If you took the fuel line off from the carb, then turned over the engine, the fuel should have a good stream of fuel. It will shoot fuel like a faucet in your house.
The float level may be stopping incoming fuel also. If the float is too high, it wont accept fuel. If its too low, it will flood. Last edited by sandking; 08-31-2008 at 11:44 AM. |

ok hubby now states that the bowl is dry. even after he puts fuel in there then starts it. it will still die. So he checked the bowl again. NO FUEL. BUT he is getting fuel up tot he carb. we pulled the line off and started it that way, fuel RAN out. So i know its not something to do with the fuel system. He is at a standstill about what is wrong.
NO fuel to the bowl, and no fuel stays in the bowl. He even readjusted the float and everything. |

Other than a misadjusted float or sticking needle and seat, I have NFC.

HE GOT IT. there was a little o ring stuck inside the bowl somewhere and it was stopping fuel from getting into the bowl. He has been out there for about 5 mintues running it . stopped, started right back up. Now his problem is too much fuel into the bowl

Double and triple check the float level and perhaps a new needle and seat would help too.

If this carb has already been rebuilt there is a "umbrella check valve" that may be holding your float.
Heres the link to the 650 rebuild,it also tells how to set floats prior to start up. http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl...c10/index.html 15.[ Make sure to cut off most of the excess of the umbrella, so it doesn't contact the float. This was one of the problems our carb had before. The umbrella was holding the float up and kept the needle from opening all the way, basically starving this bowl. i know VERY little of carbs, and i know your NOT rebuilding but. but all those pics on that website may help you out! jeff
