Found some hacking on my truck...correct rear-end ??
I lifted up my truck for some service (oil and brake adjustment) and noticed the panhard mount (frame-side) was cut, and moved rearword. They cut the tabs and a few rivets, moved it back and splatter welded it back on...
I was trying to figure this out....it looks like if it were back in the original spot, the panhard bar would nail the diff cover during suspension travel. Hmmm.....Just trying to figure out why this is like this ?? Is this a different year rear-end...as far as I knew this truck was all stock (except for engine and shifter) Anyway, here are some crappy pics....hope someone can shed somel light ! - - - - - - - - Also check out my custom rear springs...they work great !! -

Re: Found some hacking on my truck...correct rear-end ??
Looks like the driveline went a little starboard at one time too...
- - In case your wondering about the springs, my buddy years ago gave me a crap load of springs from his wherehouse....they were all odd-ball with no part numbers etc....these were laying around in my cellar for years. They are about a foot long, soft spring rate, and a nice machined flat surface on both ends. Bolted only to the trailing arms, they compress nice in the truck for the perfect height. Later...

I am going to guess that you have a fairly early '63. From '60-early '63, the Panhard bar went straight from the frame to a tower on the right axle tube. Later in the production year, the Corporate 12 bolt got the cast in differential bracket and the bar ran at more of an angle from the frame up to that bracket.

That rear is from a 65-up. The 63/64 had a bracket attatched to the pass. side axle tube with a longer panhard bar. The frame brackets for the panhard were also a little different. The 65-up had the cast in ear next to the pumpkin like the one in your pics.

Re: Found some hacking on my truck...correct rear-end ??
Yes please do.....'65 huh...makes sense as the rear axle has brake adjusters, and 63 and older shouldn't have them, as my fronts don't.
I need a posi bad (see tires), so I'm sure the early 63 and 65 are different. I am probably better off with the rear-end I got, rather than the early 63, I'm assuming.

Probably so... the axles and spider gears have more splines for 65-66.

Since you have 30 spline axles you have lots of options. Eaton, Auburn, Lockrite, Detroit, Moroso even makes one, or at least they did.....The Eaton is probably the most popular. You can also get spools and mini spools if you so desire.
