Yep that's what they are. Don't know what year they started, but I think in the early 80's.

Actually, the five and six lug aluminum wheels, in various rim sizes and finish, were first optional exclusively on the 1978 and 1979 C10/K10 Chevy Sport models, with availability extended to the entire half ton line, including pickups, suburbans, blazers, and G10/G20 vans/sportvans, regardless of trim, for the 1980 model year. The option took a brief hiatus during the 1983 and 1984 model years, but reappeared on the scene for 1985+. The same applies for equivalent GMC models, + other GMC-exclusive specialty half tons that appeared during the '78/'79 time frame.

Similar wheels, but in 8 lug form minus center caps, were offered for various 3/4 and 1 ton specialty models, including Indy Specials and Sarge models, for the '76 and '77 years.

Had to throw this in since 78SilveradoSWB brought up the question of introduction year...

My 77 has the original mags on it. They are sweet and are very hard to come by!

Thanks KIILew: Wasn't sure, should have looked at my 78 brochure. I think the 79 GMC Rockford's dad Rocky used in the Rockford Files had those wheels.

The wheels on Ebay are 5 lug 15 inch, I need 8 lug 16.5's.

oh! The only place I've seen a set like that is on the ad for the 1977 GMC Sarge I just got yesterday. The American Eagle 589 Wheels are probably where I would go to get something very close without searching forever for original GM stuff.
