I have the hydraulic lift on mine, and love it. How long does it take for the bag to fully lift the bed, and how much weight will it lift?

what is the point of a dump bed on a half ton truck?
not being an ass, it is a legitimate question.
is it just for show?

yikes. I wonder how big the air tank is to fill that bag? And how long would it take to fully inflate.

I think I would stick with hydraulics for a dump bed....

as to your question, joe231, even on a half ton truck a dump bed is a great idea and im thinking of getting one... Im a contractor and i use my truck to haul wood , sheetrock debris, etc off of sites.. when i take that to the dump i have to unload by hand. A dump bed would allow me to unload in one shot. It would also accomodate two yards of mulch or a yard of topsoil even a small load of pebbles for a planter bed
When i get the time and money i want to put one on my rig which brings me into MY question.... where and how much for that set up? Do you have to remove the rear bumper? and can ya run a class III hitch with that kind of setup?

Not to ruin anyone's party, but overloading a halfton truck, whether it can dump the load or not, is subject to a big fine, especially here in Pa. State cop told me he LOVES the weekend warrior that thinks he can overload a little truck with mulch or sand, etc, and think no one's going to notice. Besides its not safe. Being a contractor, all my truck's are properly registered for the maximum GVW allowed. Once you get fined, well . . . Just my two cents.

I know when we haul mulch it would be great to have a dump box. While many guys build their trucks for show many of us have them to use them. And yes you should not over load them dump body or not!

I remember seeing an install of one of those bag dumps on tv a few years ago.Seems to me they just used a small compressor (like a viair),and it filled pretty quick.
As a home owner,I can think of many uses for such a thing.I've shoveled many bedloads of dirt/clay/gravel out of my hauler that I wouldn't have needed to with that.

it was on an episode of trucks stacy david installed one and it filled pretty quick. and any one who parks under a tree in the fall and then gets all the leaves rained on and stuck to the bed and then has to get all that crap out would love a dump bed. just take to carwash lift bed and hose it out that would be great. but the ones i've seen were for hauling dirt or gravel.

just thinking , there those bags they use to lift a car up and these hook up to the exaust of a car i think you could do the same thing with a bag this size and lift it pretty quick maybe even launch the load

I have a piece of land out in the country that has a heavy drainage running though it. I have cut small roads through it to handle our ATV's that we use to haul out our deer, and to service the food plots. Because of the location I cannot get anyone to bring in gravel to fill those really bad areas with gravel. I bought this truck ($800.) to be able to haul 1st grind mulch in every spring to fill in the mud areas.
My wife and I started out with a pitch fork off loading the mulch, then moved to the "load handler" which is a fabric that you can spread over your bed before the mulch is loaded and then crank it off. That worked fine for a few years, however, we are getting too old now to handle even that system. So, for $1100. I installed this lift. And man what a difference! We just pull up to the area, dump the load and then level it with the ATV and a snow plow blade. No real physical labor! I even hauled in gravel for the first time this year.
I built the little half ton to do the job by adding 150lb air shocks, and 2000lb coil spring assits. My truck will hold two cubic yards of mulch, or one ton of gravel without the bed moving below level.

I think the bag type lift is interesting, and probably easier to assemble then the hydraulic type, but I am perfectly happy with mine. BTW, my lift is rated to at 4000lbs.

how do you modify the gas tanks to connect to the filler hole. That is actually a cool idea.

Shorten the filler hose to put the cap closer to the tank and when needed, just lift the bed to gain access to fill up. Would also help to deter fuel theft as well since the fill point isn't easily accessible.
