4x4 big block exhaust

I'm building a 1968 half ton 4x4 with a manual trans, put a new 454 in it and now I'm stuck! Anyone know what exhaust manifold/header will fit on the drivers side? Thanks for any help you can give!

Re: 4x4 big block exhaust

you have to trim the frame. Doug Thorley makes headers that fit.

Re: 4x4 big block exhaust

I used some Dynomax headers that you can find more info about in the link to my website in my sig - however, they will not work for you since you will be using stock clutch linkage. Just posting this info so you can avoid them.

Re: 4x4 big block exhaust

I use hooker super comp headers in all of mine and never had to do any trimming.

I agree with the hooker recommendation, its been a while but I used them on a 69 sub with a bb and a 4-speed.

Re: 4x4 big block exhaust

Meh, I wouldn’t use headers on my truck if they were growing on my a**. I used headers on two trucks and they cured me for life! On a stock engine headers are only good for ruining starter motors and the catalyst of tons of exhaust leaks.

I am aware the engine sits back pretty far on the 67-72 4x4’s compared to my ’78 but I had the same issue with finding an exhaust manifold to clear the mechanical clutch linkage when I did my BB swap. I ended up using a driver’s side exhaust manifold for a 1973 – 1984 truck, which cleared the clutch linkage just fine……After all, that era manifold was designed to clear that stuff. I would think the 1973 – 1984 manifold would fit 67-72 4x4 with a BB crammed in it just fine as well.

Here is a picture of my ’78 with a Vortec 8.1L. The 8.1L physically bolts in the same as any BB so I am still running my old 454 exhaust manifolds.

Maybe these pictures will help determine if this era manifold will fit a 67-72.
