Re: Steering Column for 52 GMC

I have a 53 GMC. I'm running a Flaming River column and I'm very happy with it. My truck is a 5 speed, but F/R makes an auto column also. There kinda pricey but worth it to me.

That would probably be the cleanest. One other choice that is popular with the rodders is the Chev van column from the early 80's
It is one of the cleaner factory columns and doesn't have the key on the column.
Most of the car columns after 1969 have too much junk hanging off them that is hard to hide in the early trucks.

Re: Steering Column for 52 GMC

The van was from the 90's. To mount I used the steering column mount that was bolted to the column & using a bracket I made bolted it to the dash.

I cut a hole in the floor boards below the original hole to let the steering to
miss the headers, which were $200 SS tight tuck headers.

Re: Steering Column for 52 GMC

do you have pictures of how you connected the shifter mechanism to the trans?? the '52 chevy that i'm currently working on had a hodgepodge of rods and brackets to connect to the trans, and it didn't work very well.

Re: Steering Column for 52 GMC

Sorry....I do not have pics that show any more. Its rather basic...just look at the rods at a car show.

Re: Steering Column for 52 GMC

Hey sgtusmc, do you have any pics of that column in your truck? We are going to be ordering one in the next few weeks and I would like to look at your setup. Also do you know the length?

Thanks Bernie
