Bench Seat Guestion
In my 1967 3/4 Chevy truck I have a stock flip foward bench seat. In my 1972 Chevy C30 and my 1972 GMC 2500 Sierra thay have non-flip forward seat.
I have been looking for a flip forward seat to replace the one in my 72GMC people have been telling me that the 67-72 never came with them. Do I have something Uber Rare in my 67 or am I just not looking hard enough fro a replacement? Thanks |

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
From the factory, with the gas tank behind the seat why would they have needed to flip forward?

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
As close as I can tell from what I have read and seen the seats with the flip forward backs were in the '67 and early '68 trucks.
My '67 has one and it looks to be stock. Danny

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
Thanks
I will start looking for the 67 bench seat. I had been looking for the 67-72 vintage seat with no luck on the flip forward feature. Dan |

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
There were 2 "stock" bench seats used. The flip forward kind and the stationary back version referred to as the "full foam" bench seat. I personally have only seen the flip forward variety in 67/68 trucks and have only seen the full foam in 69-72 trucks. That is not to say the full foam could have been an option in 67/68. Both are interchangeable as they use the same seat tracks.
The flip forward seat has minimal padding over the springs. The full foam, as the name implies had a thicjk foam padding over the springs. The seat covers and replacement foam the vendors sell are designed for the full foam seat

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
when I put my tank under the bed, I removed the upper bolt on both sides of the outer seat back frame where it attaches to the seat bottom, and now it flips forward just fine.

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
I parted a 70 Chevy and it had a flip seat, and I have a 68 Chevy and a 70 GMC and they both have fixed seats.

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
My67 custom cab had the flip seat but I junked it. was that a mistake? are they rarer to find?
As a replacement I used a bench seat from a 94 silverado. (flip seat back)

Re: Bench Seat Guestion
O also removed the upper bolt from the '72 I had. I used a nice fabric grommet through the seat material and then used a pull pin (long straight with a little ball at the end, and a key ring pull on the other end) in the upper bolt hole. When I wanted to lean the seat forward, I just reached down, pulled the pin, and leaned the back forward. Worked like a champ. I only used the pin on the driverside, I rarely have passengers.
