66 C70 need info

HI I have a 1966 C70:Chevy: and I'm looking for info.
The one thing I see is the cab looks like a 68 to 72 style but different.

Also I'm looking for the ratio of the Axillary trans spicer 6231A and a parts book for it or any info .
Also any photos of the in side and where the air brake control valves should be would be helpful.

The truck is a 1966 C70 ,653 Detroit diesel ,air brakes , 5 + 3 trans and 2 speed rear. Just a cab and chassy right now . EX county truck lower miles but beat up.

Thanks
Brian

Re: 66 C70 need info

lets see a pic...
does it look like this? in 66 they jumped the new cab ahead a year (67-72 style ) for the 7500 series truck

sounds neat!

the photo is from www.6066gmcguy.org/ , he might have info on his site about the mechanical stuff.
I assume chev/gmc had similar drivetrain , except for the engine

Re: 66 C70 need info

Yes it looks like that cab. What confused me was the same year 1966 the cabs also looked like my 64 4X4 1/2 ton cab in the bigger trucks. I guess just like GMC Chevy offered the new conventional trucks in 66 also. But the inside looks nothing like a 67-72 . Also the has a air vent just below the windshield like the 47 to 53 trucks had Cool !!!
www.6066gmcguy.org/ web site has lots of info thanks
I been looking for a similar web site for bigger Chevy's, but looks like here there is some info found on different posts.
My plan is to make a 5th wheel hauler but still have a small usable flat bed.

This truck has saw a lots of different use starting out as a conventional truck with a 5th wheel pulling who know what. Then had the frame stretched and was a dump truck and then its last years it had oil tank and was road oiler .

Bought new in 66 by Ferry County WA. road dept. Had good service done to it. It come with most all the service manuals and parts book ,data plate, option sticker , Detroit operating manual.
The only bad thing is it going to need some dents fixed and 100's of holes from different things it had like radios, flashing lights, dump controls, etc. fixed.
Parts needed right now : Left front fender , bumper and what ever was covering the small rectangle hole in the glove box door ID badge?

Re: 66 C70 need info

I didn't realize that GM did that with the 7500 series as Jon said. Learned something new today!

I'm curious how the dash is different....

BTW Welcome neighbor!

Re: 66 C70 need info

That style was introduced in 66 and was known as the 92" BBC (bumper to back of cab) versus the conventional 105" BBC. It was futuristic at the time and was used for another 2 decades. It looks like the only carry over item was the shrunken grill design.

Re: 66 C70 need info

Cool Info but what did Chevy call it I heard it called all types of modles .
I would like to find some clear in side of the cab photos.
It has some type of in side light that is in the glove box the shines out a hole in the glove box door. I need the plastic cover or I can make one if I know what it look like.

Re: 66 C70 need info

It was known as the short conventional 92".There were 2 series, the 70000 and 80000. I would look for a "chevy truck brochure" on Ebay for detailed info on vehicle. The avatar is a real photo of a GMC "crackerbox" hauling brand new 66's.
