Unhappy Ignition Problems

I have an 87 GMC with a 350. I drove it to work and since then it will not start. I have no fire from the coil. All fuses are good, I changed the coil, ignition modual, pick-up coil. I have power to the coil. Is there any switches that will stop the ignition module from sending a signal to the coil?

What about checking the line fuses. If they are balged (sp?)out they arent any good anymore.

Have you checked all the wiring inside the distributor. What about the cap? Is it in good shape. I once had the brass button overheat on one and burn through the cap. Mine wouldn't hit a lick. I finally narrowed it down to a fusible link in the power wire going to the distributor which had burned in two. Of course you say the coil is getting power though. Check all the wires going to the computer also.

I would try another known good distributor if I could find one to use. This will tell you if this part is causing it. Then you can go from there.

Is the fuel pump tied to the computer? Might want to check if the fuel pump is kicking on.

I just help one of my friends with the same problem. His ESC went out, I had him put in a regular ing. module ( 4-pins ), his had 6 pins.
Just use the two wires that go to the pickup coil for one side and the normal two wires for the other side. The ESC was holding down the output of the ing. module.

NOTE: Year One has shop books (w/wiring diag.)4 sale for our trucks.

I've been away for awhile, I've been helping a friend install a LS1 in a 90 Chevy. truck. I'm doing the wiring harness for the computer and the orignal trucks wiring with out the orig. computer. Man what a task, I'm having a bunch of fun. I'll let ya'll know how it comes out. Since my truck is running just fine, I can help other people.

If you have a manual transmission you may have a problem with your clutch safety switch. It is located under the dash and is connected to the clutch pedal (near the pivot point). If the clutch is not pushed in the truck will not start. If the switch goes bad you truck wont start at all. Just another thought.....

Good Luck!
