Crate Engines

I am finishing up a restoration on a 1971 Blazer and will be needing a new small block engine.
I think I want to go with a crate 350 or 383 with lots of low end torque.
Any recommendations on crate motor companies?
Thanks.

Re: Crate Engines

what's your budget? It's hard to go wrong with GMPP crate motors, though they aren't the cheapest.

Re: Crate Engines

I bought a GMPP 350 c.i. with 330 h.p. in 2000. It was put in my longbed '71 2 wheel drive and ran great. Now I have it in my '71 SWB 4X4 and after 8 years, it still runs strong. Check out the youtube link in my signature to hear it run. It's not to bad on gas. It's all in what performance you want.

Re: Crate Engines

they are out of Alabama....they were the first company to offer bad ass aluminum heads for under a grand. Most of the major mags have used there heads on buildups and they have been on the hotrod block of tv on spike a few times as well. They mostly specialize in top end parts but they build motors as well.
the 350 is
brand new 4 bolt main gm performance block
350horse/375lbts of torque
aluminum 64/190 heads
performer rpm intake
roller rockers
a decent cam that still has a good idle
hei distributor
double roller timing chain
some other stuff....lol

for 3300.00 its probably one of the best engines out there for the price.

and it comes backed with a 12 month warrenty.
i ordered it last monday they built it by friday and it should be getting to my dad today.

i ordered about 1500 in summit parts to go with it....should end up being about 5000 under the hood and all i will have left to do is a paint job and its ahell of a daily driver lol.
