strange wiring issue

Anyone ever seen this one? Amazing, its one thing after another with this truck lately! ugh..

Short and sweet, the starter will crank with going from the off position, to acc. if you leave the key 1/2 between it will continue to crank.

i have tore apart most the wiring in the engine compartment and redid some things, something that has needed to be done, but hasn’t changed anything. Didn’t find anything out of the ordinary. And I paid particular attention to the purple wire that in is the starter ciruct.

How long has this been going on? no idea, I just noticed it.

can you be certain that the ignition switch and key cylinder are securely screwed to the dash and in the proper orientation (small hole in upper right corner)?

I had one that would do funny things - but the locking screw (metal circle on outside of dash holding the key cylinder fastened to the ignition switch) was loose and the key movement (clockwise) would turn the cylinder with it - so it would act funny.

Try this - hold the ignition switch with one hand see if you can spin the metal lock nut on face of the dash - clockwise - to tighten up the keying stuff...

sounds like a switch issue. i doubt its in the wiring.

Dave, pull the plug off the back of the ignition switch and check for melting/arcing.
If it all looks good, I'd replace the switch.

well i looked at the plug, everything looks fine. for giggles i put a ohms meeter on it. EVERY wire, except the main red power feed was grounded. normal? seems a bit fishy, but i guess it could be normal..

if someone is bored please check that out for me.

Most every switched wire will read as a ground when the power is switched off... so yeah, i can see that happening.
