4x4 conversion
I was wanting to get some opinions and see what's better. I have a 2wd 3/4 ton 69 LWB and was wondering if it's cheaper and easier to do the 4x4 conversion or to buy a 4x4 truck. I'm looking for something I can offroad and have fun with just wanted some opinions

Re: 4x4 conversion
Having done most of it, if you want a stock 4x4 it's cheaper to just buy one.
If you're going to do custom suspension or any other mods, it might be easier to start with a 2x4. That said, added a motor, dual t-cases, 1 tons with cross over steering and custom suspension to a 2wd chassis to make a Longhorn on 35" tires that will tow a mountain. |

Re: 4x4 conversion
Buy it, unless you're really attached to your truck; if you are, do a body swap to a 4X4 frame.........

Re: 4x4 conversion
So I've decided to buy a 4x4 however living in San Diego it seems impossible to find a decent one for under 2k. All I want is a beater something that runs and drives and is legal that I can take out and four by and can't find anything...I even posted a WTB ad and can't seem to find anything

Re: 4x4 conversion
I say do th convertion, If you have 2 grand to play with, buy the parts at the wrecking yard, and do the work your self, you can have a nice truck.

Re: 4x4 conversion
You won't find much in Calif for 2000 or less I paid 3000 for the original SWB 4x4 then paid 2500 for a parts truck to get a rust free cab with air

Re: 4x4 conversion
man that kinda stinks about not being able to find a truck in Cali. I have a buddy who comes up on deals all the time..like last weekend he got an 81 k-20 on 42s with a 16" lift and some cosmetic issues for four bying for $370 how insane is that? I mean it's not pretty but the truck was a great deal and it'll roast the tires
