steering colum help

I am putting my truck back together and just put new seals around my steering column one on the dash and one down on the firewall. I do have the retainer...(the metal ring) can someone please show me how it bolts on because I cant get any holes to line up. Also what keeps the steering column from spinning in circles? Is there another bracket I am missing.
Its a 68 non-tilt.
I have column, both seals, retainer, and bracket under dash which mounts by the gauges.

Usually the dash bracket stops the colum from spinning but who cares because the colum has no effect on your steering seeing as your steering wheel and shaft only spin inside the colum... You turning the wheel does not spin the colum. It does not take much to hold the colum in place so the upper bracket will be fine.

Lower Bracket. I believe you slide it on the colum with the side that goes in the cab on it. then Drill the 3-4 holes thru the fire wall and slip the other end on and bolt it up. I may be confused about your lower bracket.

me turning the wheel does not spin the column....i know that but shifting from park to drive or nuetral does

HaHa I was there about 2 months ago looking for the same thing you are. Here is picture of what it's supposed to look like in the engine bay.



If you can't tell the bracket your looking for has 3 holes and a partial circle that the retainer ring holds onto.

On the outside of the Firewall there is a bracket with a bolt & nut combo, if you have it tight it shouldn't spin plus it will raise the column a bit higher. But insure you have the neutral safety switch adjusted correctly.
