Paint Decision - what do you think?

Hey guys,
Its about time to send my truck off to paint.
Been doing alot of the bodywork myself but my painter is ready for it... and I'm ready to have a truck of one color.
Body and appearance modifications include:
Shaved marker lights
Shaved all trim
Shaved rain gutters
Shaved Visor and Cab Clearance lights
Smoothed Tailgate with handle flip
Cowl hood (not pictured)
Gaylords lid (not pictured)
Phantom grill
Sport bumper

Here is about what it looks like now.
Below that is the color that I'm thinking of going with.
Its a new for 2009 chevy color. Cyber Grey Metallic.
What do ya'll think?

FYI: this is not my car... just some pictures found online to show the color.

I love the SWB CC. Since you asked, I'll be honest. I think the color won't do anything for that truck. Not a bad color, just not the one for the truck.

I agree with Ken that is a bland color for atruck like yours you need a color that will highlight off your body lines.

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

I've been trying to pick a color that is different from the norm. I appreciate your honesty.
I know I don't want red (another red one in town), black (to hard to keep clean) or white (just plain).
A medium metallic blue is my second choice. Something similar to this truck.

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

I agree about the grey but that medium tone grey
on a pick up truck will make it invisible. As nice a color as it may be .
If you like blues I think I would be a much better color.

I guess I'm supposing you want your truck to have some visual
impact but in the end it's your truck.

Think about how you think about your truck. Is it strictly for you for transportation, for work, or is it your calling card and when folks see
it they know it's you instantly. Color can make all the difference in a vehicles
personality

grey - great color but -says fleet work truck to me .
medium metalic blue -says clean conservative classic stlye and really works
well with chrome and bright trim

If you really dig that grey think two- tone grey and blue -OH YEAH
take some time , try photo shoppping it up
If budget wont allow two tone now add the second color later.
Good luck

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

Nice looking truck. I'm getting ready to do my '83 truck two tone. Any idea why your 2 tone lines don't match up from the box to the rear door? The guy doing my 2 tone hasn't ever done it before, so we're just going by measurements off the existing 2 tone where we can, or we'll take measurements off other trucks, just hate for them to have changed somthing along the line and we'd have 2 tone that doesn't line up when the time comes to bolt everything together. Thanks.

I think the burgundy on the nissan next to your truck would look good, but it might look a bit goofy with those two parked next to each other.

What color will the interior be? Will it be a daily driver?

Thanks for the thoughts. I had thought about two-tone but I haven't been able to pick one color let alone 2.
Everyone else that I have asked hasn't been as helpful as ya'll have been so far.

I think the colors are off because the doors are factory paint and the bed was a repaint. So whoever painted it moved the line up. Don't know if they were all exactly the same from the factory but I was surprised how well the doors paint lines came together.

Two-tones on these trucks scare me... because that is probably going to be a really long straight line. And if it isn't straight or if the bed and cab aren't aligned right you will notice it right away. Good luck on your paint job.

This is my daily driver. It will sit outside under my tree since it is too long to fit in my garage (even if it wasn't full of stuff).
The interior will probably be black. However, I have no final plans for it yet. The interior pieces I have will require painting and new carpet and.... you get the picture. So I can go whatever color I would like.

Imagine if you will 4 bucket seats from an 07 Silverado... custom center console from front to back.... Still have alot of dreaming to do before starting on it.
For now the bottom of the dash will be painted body color and everything else will stay like it is. That should be all that is exposed once it is completed.

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

I vote for black on top, and orange on the bottom. It will stand out, and still look good. I know it's been done before, but I really like it. Use an orange with a lot of pearl in it (like Lamborghini orange, or even a tangelo type of color) with a nice, deep black. Break the paint either at the body line, or really high (maybe an inch or so below the top of the fenders and windows) and make the handles, cylinders, and trim the color they sit over to help them blend in. Break it with a nice, bright color (I would say purple, maybe yellow or a bright green would look OK too) and you are good to go. Do the inside metal black, and it will look good with the black leather. This is opinion, what I would do.

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

guess i'm in the minority, but I have seen some squares with a similar gray and really like them....or a dark gray and black 2 tone...
but as stated, ultimately it is your truck and you have to live with the decision

Thanks for the advice. I've posted in the photochop to see if they can make it the same color as below.

This is what my truck looked like before it donated its heart and soul to the crew cab with all the old chrome trim. So now I am wanting something different. It served me well for 12 years before being rebuilt with more doors and less bed.

I like the Ole Skool two tone, White and Turquoise/Powder Blue look, my dad had a 64 with that color and it looked sharp thinking of that route with my 83

here is my '79 project with PPG Aston Martin Cumberland Grey....looks real nice in the sun....

I personally like the older square bodies with a charcoal grey...although I've never been big on "bright" colors...

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

I would not waste my time and money putting paint on that truck just drive it to Canada and leave it in my laneway...lol...no I love it looks like you have a great start to a nice truck ,wish i could afford to build one.As far as the colour goes i think grey is kinda blah myself ,you want to attract attention as i think it,s a great looking truck.I kinda am loving the black and orange mentioned above

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

I just got to the thread and i didnt read past post #10 but i will say that while i do like the grey you picked out the others are right it will not highlight the truck like theblue will. I personally prefer the blue over the grey and trust me grey isnt as easy to keep clean as you think..I have grey on my ford.. .. i would look at the firemist line of cadillac colors from the eighties and perhaps id add a little black in there as an accent color..but i will also say your truck is really cool i like it alot

Re: Paint Decision - what do you think?

If you do paint it that dark charcoal, I would definitely put the factory silver molding back on. It would provide just enough break up for the dark color.

That dark charcoal would also look good with the factory trim down the side, and the lower area under the trim a lighter metallic silver.

It even has the wheels that I am probably going to get. Definitely doesn't make the impact that the blue does. I am now leading more towards the blue the more I think about it. The grey looks nice but I think I will be happier with a brighter color.
