That is sad! From what we can see of the front end, everything even looks pretty straight.

I like truck parts, but not that much. I am trying to keep an eye on it and if i can get there after it comes off the pile, and before it hits the crusher i can probably save a few parts. Its all about timing. It looks pretty good from what i see.

Re: Sad sight 72

G'Day to all you chevy blokes on this site. Proud to be here reading all the excelent info. For the last few days Ive been to 4 junk yards and seen about 9 old trucks unceremoniously sent to the crusher with plenty of perfectly good bits on them. We spent hrs trying to remove a few bits only to be beaten by RUST and bloodied hands. Its a sad,sad thing to see them discarded like garbage. I would quit going outta respect but you never know that next hulk might have a tow hook or some buddie buckets that needs saving for my jalopy. Chevs rule eh? Suzuki sierras and subaru brumbys are good little buggers too up the bush.

Well be sure to stop there on a regular basis and see what you can pull off it.

Best of luck!

Re: Sad sight 72

heres one for you all-- i was driving a car the other day.. sitting at a red light, i see this truck go by. its a 71 C20, hauling a 70 C10 stepside on a trailer. the stepside was loaded down with so much metal the tires were bulging. i followed the guy all the way to the crusher... he would NOT sell it to me! i offered to completly unload trailer by hand and pay him more then scrap price for the truck on top of that.. his only reply was "im already here, i've pulled all the good parts off, its getting shredded". this thing had a MINT no rust/no dent set of step fenders on it

Re: Sad sight 72

Did you ask them if they'll pull it down for you? They will here. I've had the guys here pull down more than one, so I could get some parts off. Pay by the pound; it's like 5 times what they paid for it, but still a bargain.

Welcome to the best site on the net! I say, you certainly don't speak quite like a native Californian...

And to everyone -- do we just write off the fate of that truck? Maybe it's gonna be put to good use; that old Caddy is probably also worth more than just scrap. Many of those vehicles may not be worth saving, but with any luck, some just might be saved. Or did I miss where it said they were all headed for the crusher? Sure would be a shame...

Re: Sad sight 72

Here is another good one, I was leaving a local yard a few saturdays ago when a big u-haul truck towing a trailer came pullin in. What catches my eye is the truck on the trailer, turns out that this guy driving the rented truck had helped an elderly fellow clear some property to get it ready for market and was given these two junk trucks (as he called'em) as a bonus to his payment for labor. One was a dodge club cab that he had already brought in that morning, the other was a well used 70 chevy c20 with no motor or trans and not a single usable piece of sheet metal on it. What this 70 does have going for it is the fact that it was an original 402/th400 truck with a factory tach cluster. After a short conversation (agreed to $50. for whatever I could remove) and thanks to there being a decent size line to get up to the scale, I ended up with about 25 minutes to pull the tach cluster, the bbc/th400 tranny linkage, the bbc motor towers and the bbc/th400 high hump trans cover. Figuring it to be a fairly odd-be-it lucky day, that evening I doubled up on my normal purchase amounts of megabucks and powerball, did'nt hit on either of them but all in all it was a great day spent playin with trucks. Oh-yeah, I almost forgot... the tach was a working unit.

It is a 3/4 ton longbox, and the grill is something aftermarket... I stopped in today, but no luck yet.
