Whats the difference?
Being new to the '67-'72's, what is the difference between the cst and the cheyenne? I've been reading posts on here for a while, but i haven't really seen a difference. Also, what years did they have the cst? Cheyenne?

Re: Whats the difference?
What does 'cst' stand for? Cheyenne super truck? Did they just re-name the 67-70 cst's as cheyennes?

Re: Whats the difference?
CST, custom sport truck available in 67-70 on pickups. The option carried on into 72 on the blazers. The cheyenne, and supers were in 71-72. All it is is an option package. Chrome and stainless for the most part.

Re: Whats the difference?
Different emblems, more insulation, more trim components, woodgrain and carpet. Better seating comfort.
A way for GM to sell you something to one-up the next guy. FoMoCo had the Explorer XLT for their top-of-the-line, and Chevy had to counter it.

Re: Whats the difference?
So what exactly do i have? Its actually a '71. It was originally the yellowish-green and white with upper and lower trim acording to the spid. Someone changed the front grill, bumper. The emblems say cst and 350, but the spid says nothing about cst, just wide lower trim and upper trim. I'm sure its a '71 cause it matches the title, frame stampings, and vin.

Re: Whats the difference?
Well one thing I know...you do not have a 71 front. It's a 69 or 70 Grille. The 71-72 were egg crate grilles. What is the serial number of your trucK.

Re: Whats the difference?
It better not be on e-bay!! This is actually the ebay pic, but i got it several months ago. Its all stripped down now. I don't have the numbers off the truck, cause its at someone else's house at the moment. Its 5 lug disc, seems to be original.

Re: Whats the difference?
I hope i'm not asking to many questions, but if the cst was from 67-70, and i've got a '71, then someone changed the emblems on the fenders to 'cst'. Then should this '71 be a cheyenne? It does have a headliner and '71 door panels, but the spid says nothing about cst or cheyenne, just upper and lower trim.

Re: Whats the difference?
does it have a cargo light at the back of the cab? Also look near the hinge pockets (where hinges meet the cab)- are there any extra dust shields in place, these will be rubber and another sign of cst/cheyenne truck. You might pull a piece of the headliner trim to see if there are hole for the mounting tabs, if not the truck has been faked(i.e. emblems) to help sell. By the way, I am close- Canton. Hope this helps. Harold

Re: Whats the difference?
theres no such thing as to many questions
i think the cheyenne and the cheyenne supers had the emblems on the fenders, and the cst emblems were mounted on the doors just below the windows, these trucks didnt always come with trim packages it sounds to me like your truck is just a base production truck with added trim

the 69-70 CST optioned trucks had the CST emblems on the front fender. Also this truck has had the Grilles switched with either a 69 or 70 grille. Security guy ...ask all the questions you want about your truck. Thats how we all learned.

Re: Whats the difference?
I think that you're right. It doesn't have a cargo light. This truck was re-done about 20 years ago (i'm guessing). It had rockers and cab corners replaced at one time. It was painted this orange in and out. They did a decent job, but its time to re-do it. I was hoping it was a cheyenne, cause my daughters name is Cheyenne. By the way, Thanks Harold! Good to hear from some folks in the western carolina mountains.

Re: Whats the difference?
security guy... couple things...
do you have a photo of the SPID? do you have a photo of the headliner? If not... does it have the chrome trim around it? The reason I ask, the only way to get a headliner, was in a CST or cheyenne or super. In early 69, they didn't install the headliner nor cargo lamps in the CST trucks. However, I have never seen one with one, and not the other. I think you may have a headliner installed in a non headliner truck. If your SPID is correct, then you don't have a cheyenne. It would be listed on the spid. You may just have a total mutt of a few seperate trucks. |

Re: Whats the difference?
Here's some pics of headliner and spid. I think i may have a home-made cst? I didn't pull the headliner out to see if it is factory or not. The trim is a silver plastic, not chrome and no cargo light.
