67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
I am looking for a new cab for my 69 GMC. I have found a decent cab near me, but it's a 71-72 chevy. Before I waste my time and money, like I did by buying Chevy fenders, I'll ask the question here.
Are the GMC and Chevy cabs the same in 67-72? Just talking about the shells, not any parts or accessories.

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
69-72 Chevy and GMC cabs are the same.
Here are differences between cabs that I can think of: 67-68 Chevy and GMC had the hand pull emergency brake, as well as the throttle rod. Of course some 67's had the small back window. I believe the throttle cable started in 69, but it is possible that it didn't start until 71. Either way that is an easy mod, so I wouldn't use that as a reason not to buy.

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
69 and 70 actually still used the rod, so technically the cabs go the same as grills, 67/68, 69/70, 71/72. 67-68 also had the fuse box turned a different direction. ive never tried the cable and rod conversion myself though

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
My 69 is throttle rod. That's one thing to think about.
I have the large back window also, and foot brake. I'm not going to worry too much about the fuse box. Sounds like I found a good match, now to go and check it for rust. Thanks for the info!

Here is the thread on how to convert (which won't matter if you buy the newer cab). If you buy the newer cab I would just use the throttle cable.

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
no big difference unless you find a 67 small back window...some small differences in 67/68 firewall but it will still work I think. 4WD's and bigblocks had a removeable high hump cover as well and 2WD SBC and I-6 didn't.

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
We put a '67 cab off a 3/4 ton frame on to a '69 short bed 1/2 ton frame using the 3/4 ton bushings, with out knowing that the 3/4 ton bushings were taller at the rear.
Now some time in the future we will have to put 1/2 ton rubber bushings on the back of the cab mounts so the fenders will properly line up to the cab. Danny

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
A couple other things are 71-72 cabs have the vent in the door pillar. 71 cabs have a riser in the metal for the rear view mirror

Re: 67-72 GMC vs Chevy cab, same cab?
since the original question was GMC verses Chevy, they are the same, however, some GMC cabs had the clutch hole on the toe board instead of the firewall.
