will this work? (trans/tcase)

as can be seen in my sig, im planning to turn my wrecker into a K30. this thing is so heavy i cant park it on dirt for more than a week, without having to pull it out with something else because it gets buried so deep by sinking.

anyways, i have to have a driver side output t-case, as my winch PTO is on the passanger side. i have a 80s 32 spline SM465 hooked to a NP208 i plan to put in. i took a jeep driver drop 208, and installed the chevy 32 spline input shaft into it. i then hooked it up to my chevy trans, but im afraid the transfer case is angled to bad to oil correctly. please see the pics and tell me what you think

thanks!
Josh

Re: will this work? (trans/tcase)

Just my opinion, it would be easier to relocate the pto to the driver side.

Re: will this work? (trans/tcase)

That will work fine... usually the rock crawler guys go the other way with clocking them.

The chain works really well as an oil pump

Although with all that work, why not an NP205 and run the PTO off of it?

Re: will this work? (trans/tcase)

i know the NP205 would be stronger, but i have a total of $57 in that set up as you see it, including both shifters. i still need a couple peices, but it should come in under $100 for my entire trans/tcase set up

i know it sounds crazy, but i'd much rather mess with the transfer case and mounting an axle, than modifying anything on the bed and winch set up. its all set up for a passanger side PTO and all the controls work so im afraid to touch them

here is the victim:

Not crazy at all... I get it.

How many miles on the 208? GM put those t-cases in 1 and1/4 ton trucks (CUCV), so you should be ok, theoretically. I do know people blowing them out. So, I ask if you're going to replace the chain, as it stretched with allot of miles and will wear the bottom of the case, causing it to crack eventually.

One of the reasons I went with a 203/205 doubler was to have a PTO option on both sides . I am putting a 20T winch in the bed of my work rig, so I needed to drive a PTO that then drives a reduction box.

Re: will this work? (trans/tcase)

If you want to spend some money, I have an NV4500,203 chevy and a 205 ford already set up for a wrecker. It is complete with a pto unit built special for the 4500 on the pass side.

Re: will this work? (trans/tcase)

man yall are killing me
grendal, im not really sure on the miles, but i was told it was under 100,000 when it was given to me. i had the trans guy at work watch me put it together and he said the chain had to be a new one with how tight it is.
kwmech, i would LOVE to have a 4500 setup, but thats defintly out of my price range based on what ive seen 4500s sell for

special, i had actually hoped to find a 241, but wound up getting the 208 for free so i rigged up this set up. based on the 241 in my 89, those suckers can take a beating... mine has 252K miles on it with no problems. im defintly intrigued
