Muffler Question

This weekend I got a deal on some headers and complete exhaust from a guy who was parting out a truck. He sold them to me as "Flowmaster" mufflers but I was looking after I got them, and they don't say "Flowmaster" anywhere on the muffler as they have the flowmaster script on the actual muffler as I was looking on Jegs at the images of the real flowmaster mufflers. They look like, and are shaped just like flowmasters with the weld along one side of them, but what could the really be? Either way I'm happy because they are way nicer than what's in my truck now-cheap turbos. Also the headers mount to the exhaust with what he called a "ball mount"-- I guess they're not supposed to leak with this type of mount. I hadn't heard of that in the past. Thanks any info would be appreciated.

Re: Muffler Question

The ball-&-socket type collectors don't leak. They have been used in OEM applications since the 80's. There are many different knock-off mufflers out there these days. They could be from any number of companies. If they sound good, don't worry about it. If it doesn't say Flowmaster on it, it's not a Flowmaster.

Re: Muffler Question

You should weld up the ball sockets they leaked like a seive on mine.

Some older flows had no name on them anywhere.

Re: Muffler Question

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to be happy, they also have an "H" pipe welded in there too. I'm confident it will sound way better than what I have now. If I like them once I get them mounted up, I will likely sell my headers and exhaust. I might have to modify them a bit because they were on a long bed and mine's short. It all depends how far on front of the tire they were turned to the side. The exhaust looks pretty short so it just might work.

Re: Muffler Question

They could be Thrush Turbo mufflers. They look just about the same.

Re: Muffler Question

Could be, but even they say "Thrush" on the muffler. At least the newer ones do because I looked at all the mufflers on Jegs and pretty much all mufflers have their respectful script or brand on the muffler itself. I'm hoping they are Flows or a Flow copycat. The ones I have on there now are like just cheap turbos that aren't welded or anything and I'm thinking whatever these are they will sound/perform better especially with the H pipe. My current exhaust is all the way to the back and I'm just tired of it. With these I'm sure to get way more engine sound as they are turned out before the rear tires.
