tailights not workin

Anyone have issues with rear lights. Everything is hooked up (to my knowledge) but the rear light are sometimey.. meanint they work when the want to. I looked underneath truck and do not see any wires shorting out or not connected. Sometime when I go over bumps (hard bumps) the light will pop on. They have only worked once since I had the truck. There are a lot of loose wires inside as well under the dash.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or know where I can fine one on-line.

Thanks

A lot of us have had that problem. It almost always is a ground cable issue. I had to install ground cables from the frame to the cab, bed rear to the frame, and added another one from battery to the radiator support.

Clean all contacts and then go to O'reilly auto parts or other and get some grounding straps. They'll help out a lot.

From the fuse box to anywhere on the frame. How would I know what's ground on the box. It's annoying, whenever I have the truck out I feel like I gotta get going early before the sun goes down to avoid a fix it tix. I just never know when those succers are gonna work. Also I've noticed that on the drivers side, when you pull the light out of the frame and you are just holdong the bulb and gromet in your hand the light works. When you stick it back in the hole, the light go out. Take it outof hole, lights on, but not even this happens all the time.

Re: tailights not workin

One problem I was having was a full 12v's being drawn while the ignition was off. I was going through battery charging often then I figured enough was enough and got determined to find the cause.

Somehow, this at one point was a manual truck so the clutch wiring was still in tact which was drawing a major load while key was off. This is the clutch swith that allowed you to start the truck by engaging the clutch. Does it have something to do with this. The wiring looks good, no fuses are blown. Maybe a wire is loose under dash. Problem is, not sure what is hot.

There was one wire that I think was hot. It touched the bottom of dash and now I no longer get a spark from this wire. it was obviously a HOT wire, but now wondering why not hot if no fuses appear to be burned?

not from the fuse box!!! the large thing in back of the cab with a tailgate is commonly refered to as the box of a pickup truck// run a metal conductive wire from that to the frame to ground the box and the lights mounted in the box

Got it.. Ok once more on where this box is. Just not getting it. It wounds like a pretty easy fix and if something this simple sixes it, I will laugh my a.. off. Are you saying the box that the light goes into from there to the frame. Sorry dude.

Re: tailights not workin

I found on mine the sockets were so dirty and corroded they didn't make a good contact with the bulbs. Cleaned them up with a good electrical contact cleaner
