Bed idea
Hello folks.
At the moment I'm sorta playing around with ideas for the next truck project and was wondering if anyone had ever seen or heard of this. Essentially what I want to do is take an 88-98 stepside bed and cut the back "steps" off of it and mold the area where they would be into the rear (if this is unclear maybe the attached pic will help). I really think this would clean up the back of the bed and give it a smoother look overall. Any thoughts, idearers, pics, etc from the resident board experts? Efabman have I lost my mind? (P.S. For all of you who are retching, I'll also be grafting the round wheel arch where the square one is now and filling in any seam I can, not to mention making the back of the cab smooth and assorted other tricks.) TIA

HEY THAT'S MY TRUCK, hehe. They already have it in kit form, its a rear step shaver kit. Runs about $350. I have seen many that have done this. Looks OK, but not for me. I think Stylin Concepts sell's them.

i've seen it done. Here's a pic in a mag. sorry for the size, maybe someone can enlarge it. took me a year to learn how to scan. i was thinking of grafting 67-72 fleetside bedsides to a 88-up bed. i like the backends better.
it's the custom classic trucks december.

I thought I read one time about somone coming up with a patch to make the late model fenders match ours. Maybe someone here can expand.

Hay Deep Purple, I've thought of the same thing for the wheel arches. I think someone sells fiberglass fenders for our year stepsides. Those would make a good doner for the wheel arches on the newer bed. I've seen the fiberglass fenders but can't remember where. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure chevy duty sells the fiber fenders for our trucks.

Thanks
Thanks everyone for the support, links, and ideas.
Shane, it appears that many stepside beds were steel stamped, particularly the earlier variety. My task becomes finding one. If not, then USbody makes fiberglass fenders for our year step sides. Either way it's an easily solved problem.
